Summary: Just as Heroic Spirits are those who have ascended into myth and reach the Throne of Heroes while the echoes of their deeds still ring throughout this world, there are echoes of a different origin that ring across this world. Their myths and legends have always and only been myth and legend, never have their feet trod upon the soil of the world. But they are heroes. And so, they too will be summoned in this War of Heroes, this Holy Grail War.
Tohsaka Rin stood before her circle, examining every minute detail to ensure that it was still the perfectly designed circle placed here by her father in the previous Grail War. It matched exactly.
She stood in the center of the circle, poised, awaiting the correct moment. A breath, and then she began to speak the incantation, flooding her circuits with prana to summon her Servant. The words rang through the air, the circle glowing as it was empowered and the colors shifted as her power, the incantation, and the circle in unison continued to crescendo to the close. As the final syllable was spoken, the air that previously swirled around her was charged with electricity. A thunderous boom disturbed the room, dust and loose paper flying everywhere.
As the air calmed and the dust cleared, Rin was kneeling in the center of the discharged circle, her breathing harsh from the effort of expending so much prana. It was only as her breathing rate slowed to normal that she noticed the Servant in front of her. He glowed ethereally in the light of the moon through the window. At first glance, she didn't know what to make of him. His long hair looked silver in the light, though by day it may seem more normal. He was tall, and dressed in a tunic and leggings, with a cloak about his shoulders.
She was about to speak, to ask him who he was, when he spoke first.
"Might I ask where we are and whose company it is that I share?" His voice was melodious, with an extra timbre as he spoke that – while his words were chivalrous, and possibly noble – betrayed his breeding, but of his possibly inhuman, or at least, not entirely human, origins.
"You are in my residence, Tohsaka Manor, which is located in Fuyuki City on the island of Japan. I am Tohsaka Rin, your summoner for this Grail War."
As he stared at her, he held himself with an unnatural stillness, as if he was deciding whether he should charge at her or retreat from the area altogether. After a long moment, he spoke again.
"Apparently, the so-called Throne of Heroes has provided, rather than contracting those who themselves had wishes, instead a new-breed of heroes." He paused again, and it seemed that he was assimilating the information that the ritual was providing him before continuing. "Very well. It seems our fates are temporarily bound together, and as those summoned are but conscious constructs of the heroes themselves, even if those who are summoned are my comrades, it will simply allow us to pit ourselves against each other."
He gazed at her with his piercing eyes, and seemed to reach his decision on how to proceed.
"My name Legolas, son of Thranduil, Prince of the Woodland Realm of Mirkwood, one of the Elven domains in Middle Earth. And for this war, I have been summoned as Archer, and indeed, among my people, once I had aged beyond my childhood years, never have I found a peer with the bow among any of the races of Middle Earth, not in a thousand years."
