-YOUBETTERNOTDIE.
There were three women that Eliwood cared about the most. The first was his mother, Eleanora, who always offered him a kind smile throughout his life. The second was Ninian, the queen of Pherae, mother of Roy, and his wife. The third was Lyndis, girl of the plains, mother of Lilina, and one of his closest friends.
And all three of them were now dead.
It didn't seem fair, but then again, life never had to be fair.
His mother had passed away from an illness that had been spreading through Pherae. She died with a smile on her face despite the pain she must have been in. He supposed that she was happy to have lived long enough to baby her only grandchild, Roy…
Ninian didn't have long to live anyway, but it still hurt to see her go. Whether she had died from illness or her own shortened lifespan in this world, Eliwood didn't know. She was still dead no matter what the cause was.
And then there was Lyndis. He still couldn't understand how she could've fallen when she was so much stronger than he was. Dead by bandits, no less. She really did have all the reason in the world to loathe their ilk, those dastards.
It didn't seem fair. It wasn't just his own son who would never know who his mother was, but Hector's little lady too. Lilina would grow up like Roy, missing a parent and wondering what kind of person gave birth to them.
Make no mistake, he wasn't worried about raising the children right. Isadora, Harken, and Marcus had helped raised him when he was a baby, and they were at the ready to aid him with Roy's upbringing. Lowen and Rebecca, who had a baby named Wolt, were also at his side when he needed them. No, he wasn't worried about his little fire starter in the least.
He wasn't too worried about Lilina either. He did have his doubts that Hector would try to raise her as a boy, but Serra would certainly put a stop to that nonsense. Matthew may just encourage Hector to at least let Lilina wear a dress, and if all was lost, then at least they had Oswin. The future heir of Ostia would grow up to be a fine noblewoman, he was sure of that.
No…he wasn't worried about the kids.
He coughed violently into his hand. He thought that disease had stopped spreading, but he supposed it was a spiteful little thing that didn't want to stop with just his mother and his wife. Determined to uproot Pherae's nobles, it probably was… He was too afraid to hold his own baby because of it.
"No, little master Roy." Isadora chided as she picked the infant up. "That's not food." She took away the brightly-colored ornament from his small hands. "Ever since you learned how to crawl, you've become quite the troublemaker!" Roy gave her a tiny smile, and she sighed. "How am I supposed to stay mad at you when you smile like that?"
"Oh, Wolt! Not you too!" Rebecca exclaimed as she picked up her baby away from the base of the decorated fir tree. "Roy's not the only little troublemaker around here, now is he?" She took away the candy cane that Wolt had, and he started to cry. "Shh… Hush, now." She rocked him a little.
He lost three important people in his life. He couldn't even hold his own son.
But he supposed that was okay if it gave him moments like this.

Ryuu: Fire Emblem 6 fic. Meh.
Holiday moral: Count your blessings sometimes.
Ryuu: This project's coming to a close. I don't know how other writers can write such long stories when I can barely write a page or so in an hour. I guess it has to do with a great imagination and lots of research? I suppose I learned something from this project. It wasn't a horrible experience.
