Disclaimer: The West Wing belongs to...well it used to be Aaron Sorkin's I don't know who has it now.

AN: This takes place during the episode of Gaza. It is Josh's turmoil.

Josh Lyman took a deep breath as he entered the hospital room. Only a few hours and already his life had changed. Donna had been injured in a car bomb.

He gasped as he saw the machines she was hooked to and how pale she was. Why had he sent her? If he hadn't she wouldn't be here now. He sat next to her.

"Oh god Donna."

He squeezed her hand hoping for a sign but it was lifeless. He wanted to kill the bastards that did this. If he could he would strangle them with his bare hands.

"Donna I don't know if you can hear me but it's Josh, I'm here for you just like you were there for me."

She always had been there, she stayed in the hospital when he was shot, refusing to give up hope. When he developed PTSD she was there, when the fiasco with Carrick came she was there.

He remembered when he first met her, how she had walked in and gotten him to hire her. It was a decision he never regretted. She'd always been there for him and how had he repaid her? By sending her into harm's way.

She had wanted to do more and he wanted her to be happy. Tears slid down his face, "pull through Donna I can't lose you."

He held her hand, "I won't leave you I'm here."

As she had held vigil for him he would no do the same. He wouldn't leave her side until she was well. He felt gratitude for Leo, who had understood his pain and let him come.

He had lost a lot of people in his life, his sister, his father, grandfather. But he would be damned if he was going to lose Donna.

He closed his eyes and prayed harder than he ever had before, if it cost him every ounce of energy he had so be it.

Soon he opened his eyes and placed a gentle kiss on her lips.

"I should've told you a long time ago but I love you." He whispered. "Please come back to me."

AN: Please review and tell me what you thought. I'm not to well versed in the West Wing Universe.
