This is set before Tamaki knows about Haruhi's fear of thunder, but just pretend she already had a cell phone from the twins. ;) Haruhi's POV, maybe a little OOC
Disclaimer: I don't own anything!
The lights in my apartment flicker on and off a few times, my warning, before the dead silence and near black darkness set in for good. The power is out, again. I really should talk to the landlady about the faulty wiring in this place, but that is the least of my worries right now. My dad is out tonight, working late again, and I am home alone in the middle of a huge thunderstorm. The deafening crash hits again and I scream, as if that will help. I normally handle these things alone, but this storm is too much. It's too loud, too dark, too scary for me to be alone. I reach for my cell phone and dial the first number in my top five.
It rings and rings and rings until I hang up; Hikaru must not have his phone turned on. Kaoru's number gives me the same result. With the storm not showing any signs of letting up, I dial the third number.
"Haninozuka residence," a maid answers.
"Hello, is Mkitskuni there?" I ask, trying to keep my trembling voice steady.
"I'm sorry, he is in Switzerland on a vacation right now, may I take a message?"
"No, that's alright, thank you," I answer, and hang up the phone. If Honey is gone, Mori is bound to be with him. Besides, he wouldn't talk much anyway (sorry Mori fans, but you know it's true!! lol). Well, only one number left to try.
"Haruhi?" Tamaki answers, obviously surprised at my calling him for the first time ever.
"Yeah, it's me. Um… sorry about calling, if you're busy then we can get off," I pause, and continue when he doesn't object. "But my power is off, and I'm home alone, and nobody else would answer their phones, and--" I was about to tell him that I'm scared, but he cuts me off.
"You're bored, right? Nothing to do? I'll entertain you, my precious daughter! What do you want to do? Talk? Play would you rather? Hangman?"
Bored, that'll work. It's a good thing he's an idiot. "You can't play hangman on the phone! (even though you can, I've done it before, but it's a LOT of work!) I guess we could--" A loud crash of thunder cuts me off. I make a noise (you choose!) and start shaking all over again. Darn, I was so close to forgetting about the storm, being so distracted on the phone and all.
"Haruhi! Haruhi, what's wrong? Are you alright?" Tamaki is panicked, I know, but I need to find my voice before I can talk again.
"I'm fine, just some thunder. Nothing to worry about," I lie in a weak, quiet voice. The next thing I know, he hung up the phone. The annoying dial tone is playing in my ear, and I'm scared again. No more distractions prepared, I hide under a table and cry like I used to when I was a little kid.
Not five minutes later, there is a knock at the door. I force myself up, hoping it's my dad home early, only to find Tamaki standing there, getting wet, right outside my door. Another crash of thunder quickly puts an end to my shock, and I lunge forward into Tamaki's waiting arms.
"Tamaki… why… how did you even know to come?" I ask once he is inside and we are sitting on my couch together. He laughs, a cute, lighthearted laugh that makes me feel a little more at ease.
"I got in my limo as soon as you called. I figured that if you were calling me then it must be an emergency," he explained, and I giggle a little. Tamaki could pick up on some pretty subtle hints, for an idiot.
We wait out the storm together, and I'm not so afraid anymore.
How cute was that? Come on, you'd have to be made of stone not to have that melt just a little piece of your heart!! Review and I promise I'll write more! Pinky swear!!
