This is the follow-up to "A Shadow and A Thought" which was Eowyn's thoughts on Aragorn. This story is Elrond's POV, with him in protective father mode. I mean, think about it. His daughter could mean the difference between victory and defeat for the forces of good!

Why does she have to love you?
You, whom I love as a son, are the one thing that she lives for, yet you will cause her death.
It is because of you she stays here, growing weaker as each day passes. I know that you do
not want her gone, yet you would not hesitate to send her away to save her.
Although it would destroy you.
If the world is to survive, Arwen must die.
That is the stark truth of it, for she is the one thing that can give you the strength to do as you
must, but to do that she must stay here, and age, and die. She can give you the hope that you
must pass onto your army, for you to have even the slightest chance of succeeding.
You need to believe in something.
It is plain that you lack the necessary confidence in yourself, that without her you are empty.
She is the thing that is essential for you, the treasure you need to protect to save the world.
Why must she be my daughter?
Why Arwen?
Why?
Why you?
Why did she choose you?
