I burst out of the water and swam to the edge of the pool, pulling myself out and grabbing a towel to dry off.

"How long was that?" I asked my two best friends, Annabeth and Grover.

"7 minutes. That's ridiculous,' Grover told me.

"How do you do it?" Annabeth asked. I shrugged.

"I just like being in water," I answered.

"Man, I wish I could spend all day underwater instead of this place," I complained in the halls of Yancy Academy later.

"I know. It's like High School without the musical," Grover agreed. Annabeth nodded, but her attention was focused on not being run over be the other students.I couldn't blame her. I was having trouble not getting trampled too.

In our next class, English, we had a substitute, a woman with reddish- brown hair pulled up into a tight bun. Personally, I think she looked scary. She was writing something on the board, but with my dyslexia, I couldn't read it.

"Percy Jackson, can you tell me what Shakespeare was trying to convey in this line of Othello?" Mrs. Dodds said. I looked at the bord and tried to make sense of the words, but couldn't.

"I'm sorry, but I don't know." Annabeth looked over at me sympathetically. She was in the same boat as me. ADHD and dyslexia. It was one of the reasons we all became friends. We were all targeted by bullies."Anybody else?" Mrs. Dodds said. I sat back in my chair, waiting until the end of class.

I let myself into my apartment hoping that my mom was home. She was ironing shirts for Gabe my step-dad.

"Hi, mom,' I said, kissing kissing her check.

"Hey, honey. How was school?" She didn't look up from her ironing. I picked up a book at random.

"The usual," I still couldn't read the back. "Hey, I think this dyslexia thing is getting worse."

"Oh, and why do you think that?"

"I don't know. Maybe it's the ADHD." I poured myself a glass of lemonade. "You know, I thought this school was supposed to make things better."

"Percy, I know how hard this is for you. But someday it will all make sense," Mom reassured me.

"Really? When? Hm? Tonight, tomorrow, when?" I leaned against the wall. I heard the door slam shut and knew my worst nightmare was home.
