Understanding by ShortStuff10
Deciding what homework to finish first was always the hardest thing for Hermione. Boys never mattered. They weren't the hardest thing. Ever. Sure, she enjoyed being with Ron. Who wouldn't? He was a handsome Quidditch player, and had many girls flocking after him. She was lucky that he picked her. Wasn't she?
Just ask any girl around Hogwarts. The three most lusted 'men' in all of Hogwarts were Ron, Harry, and Malfoy.
Malfoy. Ha. He had tortured Hermione with merciless teasing, name-calling, and other childish games. Then again, she had also done the same to him. She never understood why he picked on her so. She knew it's been said that when a boy teases a girl, he likes her. But Malfoy had Pansy, right? So no need to worry about that.
She did anyway. She also knew the saying of "opposites attract." Who doesn't? It was the same way for Ron and her. Ron was the obsessive-compulsive Quidditch player, and she was the obsessive-compulsive bookworm, a.k.a. the non-Quidditch player. Perfect opposites.
Yet she felt something was missing. But what, she didn't know. Ron told her he loved her every day, as many times as possible. She said it back, believing it. For a while anyway.
That's before the massive amounts of teasing began with Malfoy. He had stopped with the Mudblood jokes, and just went to pettier--but more obnoxious--jokes. He would call her name then make her trip in the hallway, then laugh at her. Glare at her and just say "Granger," in a bizarre way. She never understood his crazy antics.
He had Pansy, why did he tease her? The whole school knew that she was completely smitten with him. The whole school thought that about Ron and her too. Thought being the key word there. They didn't know the dilemmas going on in her mind. How could they? She barely understood them herself.
Still, something about him intrigued her though. She wanted to investigate, but never had time. Ron always wanted to be together, at every possible available moment. So she would go down to the Great Hall early for meals, watching him without the protective eye of Ron or Harry.
She would catch him staring at her, just for a millisecond. Never enough to be proof. Everyone was known to look around the room, then have their eyes settle on someone unconsciously. Right? 'Course.
Eventually Ron or Harry (usually Ron) would come down to the Great Hall, then Malfoy would start talking loudly about him or his family. Not that anyone cared but the Slytherins. Then Hermione and Ron would leave the Great Hall, preparing to go to the first class of the day.
Then one day it happened. She was walking to Ancient Runes, one of the very few classes that she had without Ron. She always liked to be early, because then she could get a good seat, right near the front.
She had heard footsteps behind her the whole way to the classroom, but thought nothing of it. Perhaps it was just the professor or a Ravenclaw. They were usually early to Ancient Runes too.
Suddenly a hand grabbed her shoulder, and thrust her around in a semi-circle. About an inch away from her face was Malfoy, staring at her. All he said was, "Thank God," and then he did it.
He kissed her. Then suddenly, she understood. She understood everything.

I know this story is so weird, but I got the ideas from the book The Truth About Forever, and the movie The Princess Diaries 2. I wrote the whole thing in about an hour, so sorry if it sucks. Don't worry, I haven't abandoned my other stories, I'm just trying to get out of writer's block!
