Sand. The world seemed to be made of it. For some reason, they were rounded by the orange sand of a desert. Tonks was waiting for him, with her pink hair shining on the sun.
"Remus!", she exclaimed, hugging him. She frowned at his lack of reaction. "What's wrong?"
"Do you know how I feel when we're together? Like this!", he said, showing the desert around them. "I feel nothing. And we can't be together anymore. I'm leaving."
He got away from her, but she grabbed his arm. Remus glared at her, only to find eyes full of tears.
"I don't get it. You told me you were back for good. How can you leave again?". She yelled at him.
"It's over, okay? I don't love you anymore. Actually, I don't think I ever did."
She got so astonished that she let his arm go. He walked away, ignoring her calling, her crying, her pain…
"NO!"
Remus Lupin woke up, breathless and covered with sweat from head to toe. His wife, Nymphadora, woke up as well.
"Honey, are you alright? What is it?"
Remus looked at his wife, almost as if he couldn't recognize her. Slowly and almost hesitantly, he held her in his strong arms, covered with an old Rolling Stones T-shirt.
"Nothing. Just a bad dream, but it's over now." He tried to smile, but his eyes were too sad to deceive her.
"It's not.", she argued, looking at him with concerned eyes. "Tell me what it is, baby."
He sighed, and put his hand in her big tummy, caressing it. Tonks waited, with her hand upon his. Remus told her about his dream, and his voice broke down when he got to the last part.
"Remus, it was only a dream. That's all. There's no reason to worry about it."
"I can't stop thinking that I left once. I don't want to make to make the same stupid mistake.", he took his hand off her belly and passed his fingers through his hair,
"You won't." She assured him, and he laughed, a sad laugh.
"How can you be so sure?"
Tonks smiled, like that was exactly what she wanted him to ask. Gently, she put his hand on her tummy again.
"First of all, because our baby kicks crazily when you talk. Second of all, because I know you love me."
"I really do.", he smiled, and kissed her softly. The baby in her tummy kicked, and Remus felt in his hand. "And you were right about the baby kicking when I talk."
"See? I'm always right."
Remus kissed her again and caressed her hair, playing with its tip.
"It could never happen, Dora. Do you know why? Because you are my only dream. And I could never be away from you. I love you."
"I love you too, honey. But you didn't let me finish. There was a third of all."
"Oh, yeah?", he kissed her cheek, and held her in his chest. "And what would be it, Mrs. Lupin?"
"You couldn't leave cause I would never let you go. You're my life, Remus"
