Just days before his plan had come to fruition, he'd taken care to store her away from the destruction that was about to take full reign of her tiny would. There were crevasses, pockets in the universe that he'd used in the past to hide at his most vulnerable, and he was confident that she'd be safe until the time came for him to retrieve her.

Tucked away while he unmade her world, Darcy slept with disoriented and feverish dreams that always seemed to include his fingertips on the back of her neck.

Her pulse was with him in her absence, a counter beat to his own heart's, as a safety measure for them both. He could whisk away to her side should something disturb her rest and it tied himself to her that if his own heart faltered, hers would pull him through, bring him to shelter, remind him to keep breathing.

She'd bled for him, after all, made these spells possible and actions such as hers deserved reward. A place of honor at his side.

He felt no shame in taking advantage of her sacrifice. He'd ignite Midgard with the same lack of shame or guilt or anything but victory and a smug satisfaction that in the end he'd taken all this world had of worth to offer.

Loki was confident that one day she'd accept him again. After all, he'd have the rest of forever to convince her. (Truly the spells that come from blood willingly spilled were the best and most potent.)

But when he'd pulled her out of her rest, flatly informed her of what had become of her home and her loved ones… she knew that even with him standing before her, that he spoke true: everybody she'd loved was dead. Including whatever part of him she'd had in the past.
