He gave them a letter which was white like paper and was paper.
CHATPTER II: THEY OPEN TEH LETTER UT IT WASNT A LETTER
Light opened the leteter but it was not letter, but Leif Leffter instead, and was the oppositte of the Death nothe, which light did not like so he ripped it, so it wouldnt have to get in the way of his work wich was the death to them bad guys.

Ryuk did not was not care because he was shingam and they are not human so they do not like naked humans so did not care all at.
