Disclaimer: The usual disclaimers apply here: I don't own Jericho, or any of its main characters. I do own this story, however…

Character(s): Again, this could have been about anyone in Jericho, even Jake & Emily, but I think Eric & April fit this story better. Feel free to let me know if you think it should be someone else…

Time Frame: Early Season One

Rating: G

Author's Note #1: This story was inspired by one I read elsewhere. I give all the credit due to that author, and my gratitude for being a very good writer.

Author's Note #2: You know, I really hate the way the way things turned out for Eric & April -like how Eric chose Mary Bailey over April, and that they killed off April AND the baby. This is my attempt to correct that aspect of things.

Summary: A look at the things you see in someone else's eyes…

In His Eyes by peacejaw

She saw the past in his eyes.

How could she not? They'd been lovers once, destined to get married one day. But then Chris had gotten killed, and he'd been forced to leave town.

She saw the past in his eyes, reflecting back at her. She saw the years they'd spent together, working, talking longing. She saw all of the anger, all of the pain, and all of the guilt in his eyes. She saw the reasons behind his faults and mistakes. She saw all of the loneliness, all of the emptiness, and all of the want in his eyes. She saw the man that'd consumed her thoughts for so many years, her empty goal, and her best friend. She saw all the years that'd gone by without a word from him, amounting to a broken heart and a failed marriage.

She saw the past in his eyes leave on the day of the bombs.

She saw the future in his eyes then.

She saw the future in his eyes, reflecting back at her. She saw the years they would spend together, working, talking, loving. She saw all of the warmth, all of the kindness, and all of the unspoken trust in his eyes. She saw the reasons behind his infatuation Mary Bailey, and his necessity for her, his wife, touch. She saw the love that'd always lain dormant, the hate that could never be found even if she looked as hard as she dared to, the resentment that would never be. She saw the happiness, the innocence, the fun. She saw the man she'd rarely paid much attention to for so many years. She saw all the years that lay ahead of them, amounting to everything she could have ever hoped for.

She saw the future in his eyes, and knew that it was time to tell him about the baby.
