*Your pov*

"Just a little further, and we'll be in Nagasaki," I told my big sister. It was a bright and sunny day, with no clouds in sight. That was both a good thing and a bad thing. Walking alongside me on this mountain S/N, my sister and the village chief. We had very similar faces and builds. Only natural, seeing we were twins.

"This sunny weather might be good for traveling, but it also means our village won't get the rain it needs." So said a voice similar to mine, as a pair of eyes similar to mine gazed upon the skies.

"And this is precisely why we are headed to Nagasaki, sister," I said firmly, "If you would gain membership with the Nagasaki vigilantes, then we're sure to receive aid for our village," I told her. "Yes, that is true," S/N nodded slightly in response, "These last few years have been famine ane plague, and that recent fire doesn't help. Our village is on the verge of ruins," she paused, "I had almost become regisned to such a fate. After all, we are only a small country village tucked away in the mountains," she breathed in, " Lord Nakagawa is truly generous, offering to grant aid to our village in exchange for assistance in restoring Nagasaki," she ended. "Sister, who is this Lord Nakagawa?" I asked her. "No need for alarm. I hear he is in the present Nagasaki magistrate, and the son of Lord Tadateru Nakagawa," she paused, "He is more than worthy of our trust. I, as the chief of our village would not have ventured to meet him otherwise," she laughed. "... I see," I smiled faintly.

S/N and I were born in a ninja village, secluded in the mountains. There, we had honed our skills since youth. But numerous natural disasters had befallen our village just before S/N became our chief. The village we knew was almost wiped out. So S/N and I had been very busy, dedicating our time to restoring the village. Our efforts had finally paid off. We had been offered assistance, on one condition.

"The chief of the village must make a name for herself as part of the 'Nagasaki vigilantes', an organization under the jurisdiction of Lord Nakagawa," I said out loud, "This was the condition given, wasn't it?" I asked. S/N nodded, "Yes, it is. Lord Nakagawa seeks only the most skilled ninja. It brings me great joy that he thinks so highly of our ninja," she smiled, "He has placed great faith in me, as such a ninja. Quite motivating," she chuckled.

S/N was a very good-natured person, and a gentle smile spread over her face as she told me her decision. Her unquestioning earnestness had me a little worried. "Aren't the Nagasaki vigilantes a rather dangerous organization?" I couldn't help but ask. "Sister, you are not only the village chief of our village, you are it's last hope. It wouldn't be right to put you at such a risk alone!" I exclaimed.

S/N closed her eyes, "It is an organization our village should proud to serve. They punish the wicked unpunishable by law, in the name of justice. That is what I hear," she sighed. I frowned in response, "All the more reason I should be serving in your place, sister," I argued. "That wouldn't do. Their condition is that the most skilled ninja in the village must serve them," S/N said calmly, directing her piercing orbs in mine, "It isn't as if you don't have an important role to serve, Y/N. Protect the village in my absence," she said firmly, "I accepted when you said you wished to protect me on the journey, did I not? If anything, I'd rather have you stay in the village," she told me. "W-well that is true but.." I didn't like it, but I couldn't argue with her logic. So I fell silent.

'Normally, someone else would be in charge of protecting my sister on the road to Nagasaki,' I thought, 'But I argued that I needed to see what kind of organization my sister would be serving with my own eyes... Until I got my way,' I sighed, 'I can't demand any more of her, I suppose.'

"Y/N, you are the only person who could ever serve as my douple. I place my faith in you not only as my brother, but as my guard." S/N said, and there was a very sisterly look on her face as she gently patted my head. I smiled, it was one of the moments where I felt we weren't a chief and her guard, but just sister and brother.

'Sister will make a name for herself in Nagasaki, while I dedicate myself to restoring our village. These are our duties.' 'I suppose I'll have to get right into it, after seeing Nagasaki with my own eyes.' Several days had passed since we had left the village, traveling while making sure we weren't seen. All we had to do was reach the end of this mountain road, and Nagasaki would be right in front of us.

Over the horizon, the ocean came into view. At the same time, the bitter scent of burning fire greeted us. 'What's going on?' I wondered. A thin plume of smoke snaked upward through the clear blue sky. We soon saw it's source; a roadside village was being razed.

"Y/N, we're changing our course. We have to go to that village," S/N told me. "We mustn't, sister! It's too dangerous! Your duty is to reach Nagasaki unharmed!" I argued. "Have you forgotten, Y/N? 'The one who leads the village must always act in the name of justice.'" S/N asked me. "Yes, but...!" At times like these, S/N seemed to kind and noble to be a village chief. That phrase she always quoted was just an example.

"We've got no time to talk. There must be something we can do to help." ignoring my pleas, S/N made a beeline for the burning village. The flames engulfing the village seemed to be leaping towards the sky. S/N ran headlong towards it, and I decided to follow.

The fire had left most of the village in smoldering ruin. Everywhere we looked, there were bodies of the fallen villagers. 'This is just horrible...' It was an inferno that still kept spreading, and our expressions betrayed the grimness of the situation. 'We two alone won't be able to put this fire out. It looks like this village is done for...'

"Sister, the fire will soon spread to where we stand. It's a real pity but we must leave for our own safety." But no sooner I had told S/N this, then. "H... help.." We heard a woman's voice, weakly crying for our help. We hurried off into it's direction. We soon found it's source. A burning warehouse, which looked as if it could collapse in any minute. Within it was a woman, who looked to be with child, pleading for rescue.

"Stay right there, I'll help you!" With no regards for her own safety, S/N was ready to leap into this burning warehouse. I found myself holding her back. "Sister, I understand how you feel. But it is simply too dangerous!" I told her, "That warehouse won't stay up much longer! I can't allow you place yourself in harms way!" I exclaimed. "Y/N, she's with a child. There is a new life within her," S/N reasoned. With a firm yet tender grip on my arm, S/N gave a gentle smile. "If I can save her, that means there will be two survivors. They will be the future of this village," she said, "This village is in ruins, much like our own. It is my duty... No, my desire, to save both." And with that S/N dashed into the burning warehouse.

'Sister is very kind. By itself, that wouldn't be a problem. But it means she cannot handle making tough calls,' I paused, 'She stays true to her heart, and leads with it. I can only hope this won't prove to be her undoing in Nagasaki.'

The sight of a smiling S/N extending her hand to the pregnant woman filled me with worrying thoughts like these. Swiftly S/N carried her out. She then softly placed her into my arms.

"She seems to have hurt her ankle, please help her walk," S/N told me. "Yes I will," I nodded. Since I didn't have S/N's strength, I had to place the woman down once, then offer my shoulder to lean on. It was only an instant that I took my eyes off of S/N, in search of a safer place.

"Burn it all down! More flaming arrows! Kill anyone that fights back!" a voice yelled. "...More raiders?!" S/N questioned. "Sister, we must flee!" Through the haze of fire, we could see the faint outlines of the enemy. A volley of flaming arrows came from their direction. "Y/N! Hurry, take her to safety!" S/N commanded.

"*gasp*! Ahhh...!" the woman gasped. "Sister!" I yelled. One of the arrows had struck the flaming warehouse, engulfing our surroundings in a sea of fire. The woman whom I was supporting let off an ear piercing scream. Hurriedly, I turned to look.

*CRASH*!

The warehouse, still in flames, came crashing down furiously. My screams were drowned out by the roar of collapsing rubble, and a cold sweat trickled down my spine. 'Sister, she's still inside!' Through the flames I saw S/N

Thankfully, she didn't seem to be hurt. But one of the massive warehouse beams had fallen on top of him, and he couldn't move. "Sister, I'll be right there to help you!"

After finding a safe hiding place for the woman, I ran through the sparks and the smoke for the warehouse. Just as I was ready to leap into the bellowing flames, sister slowly smiled. "Y/N I won't let you came any closer," she told me. "What..?" I asked. "My legs, they won't move. Besides, it's only a matter of time before this fire will swallow this warehouse, too," she said grimly. "That won't matter, so long as you stay alive! I, I can move those beams..." I argued. "You are a very skilled ninja. But you could never move these beams. We both know that, do we not?" She told me. "Ngh.. " The beams which were crushing S/N could not be lifted, not with my strength and health. I didn't want to admit it, but it was true. Those beams were soon engulfed with flames, taking S/N with them.

"Y/N, as the village chief I have two orders for you," she told me. "S-sister...?!" I exclaimed. "First. Make sure that woman gets to safety. Second. Restore our village," she told me, "Y/N. The future of this village, and our own. Both, I leave to you," she said. "Sister!!!" I screamed. "I leave these tasks to you, Y/N. So there may be sorrow, no more, for anyone..." And with that, a column of flame erased S/N from my view.

"N-no... I can't believe this, I won't..." Where once stood a warehouse, now remained only roaring crimson flames. It was at that moment that I knew. Knew that I had lost the most important person in my life, the one that had always been there for me. We were twins, after all. We had an unspoken, unbreakable bond... One that was shattered in that moment.

After making sure the woman found a safe haven, I walked around what was left of the village. S/N's last words were always on my mind. It seemed there were no other survivors.

As soon as I returned to the smoldering warehouse ruins, an inexpressible feeling of loss swept over me. 'Sister can't be dead. I won't believe it,' I thought, 'She was always so kind. Too kind even. Trying to save everyone, and paying the price for it. She was always like that.'

As I gazed upon the still-roaring flames, I was transfixed. I couldn't move, couldn't leave this warehouse. 'I can do no more for this village. I have to leave, too,' I thought solemnly.

It was then that I heard the uproarious laughter shatter the silence. There was a man walking through the flames. With perverted glee, he kicked anyany bodies he came across, living or dead. "Hahahahaha! That's what you get for defying me! Burn it all, down to the ground!" He joyfully barked orders to his henchmen, then cackled with sinister glee. "Defying means doom for your village! Beg all you want, I'll still leave your homes in ashes!" the man sneered. .

'This man.. He's the one who set this village on fire!' No sooner had that thought passed through my head, then I felt my breath catch in my throat and blood rush to my head. I readied my trusty sickle and chain. 'My sister's death must be avenged!' I paused, 'No matter how many henchmen he has. I am a ninja. It would be easy to just decapitate that man!' I thought. 'I don't care whether I live or die, so long as I can take him down!' I thought once more.

"All right, that oughta do it. Back to Nagasaki we go. World'll get out about what happened here soon enough." With that he turned his back and began to walk away. It was the perfect opportunity... Or so I thought.

Steeling my grip on my sickle and chain. I took my first step through the flames. In the blink of an eye, the man was surrounded by henchmen. It seemed that these fierce, seasoned soldiers had sensed my presence.

"What is it? Is some headstrong fool looking for blood?" The sneering man spat out, while his henchmen narrowed their eyes to try and spot me. Thankfully, the walls of flame acted as a veil and hid my position. It was soon obvious that they weren't going to make the first move.

The man seemed secure in his own safety. He turned to walk away, guffawing all the while. 'I shouldn't let him get away. But I can't take out that many enemies by myself...' I thought, angry at myself. In the time I wasted hesitating, fire had engulfed everything around me. The man's disgusting laughter soon faded away. 'I was my sister's keeper. I asked for this responsibility myself. And still, I couldn't save her...' My sorrow was replaced by anger, and it was then that I remembered what S/N would always say.

"The one who leads the village must always act in the name of justice."

'I have to do something or else my village will perish. I can't allow that to happen,' I thought. 'But what's the right and just thing to do?' I asked myself. The flames burned even higher, tinging the sky in a crimsom hue.

Everything was awash in red. And it was then that I made my choice. 'I have to act in my sister's place, and make a name for myself as part of the Nagasaki Vigilantes,' I thought. 'Then, I can restore my village. And someday, I will avenge my sister,' I thought, determined. 'I will never forget what that man looked like. I will take his life with my own hands, for my sister!'

'But there is something I have to do first.' Putting my sickle and chain away, I took out the knife I keep for self-defense. "Sister... I will make sure your sacrifice was not in vain." With that I used the knife to cut away the ribbon keeping my hair up, letting the hair flow freely once more. It fell to the ground, where it soon caught fire and burned away into nothing. We were twins after all. Identical. With our long open hair, not even the people of my village could tell the two of us apart.

'From now on I will live as my sister. As of today... I am S/N.'

I turned my back to the flames which surrounded me, in silence.

'I am S/N L/N now. Until the day I restore my village, and find my vengeance. I must abandon the name Y/N!'

I had to go to Nagasaki, to save my village. And so I began walking, through the fire and flames. I had to do it, no matter how hard it may prove to be..
