They Say It Was a Rainy Day
Ohio, 3:40:
A girl with a black Invader Zim T-shirt and an evil gleam in her eye spied the perfect addition to her IZ collection. A giant stuffed Gir doll stared down at her with dark eyes. The girl sighed and remembered the show that once was. Shaking her head, she pushed open the store door. Hot Topic, where else would anyone go?
The girl smiled as she recognized her friend Katie from school. They had once done a fanfic together; twisted as it was, they got some nice reviews. Katie was talking to the store clerk with a confused face. This wasn't unusual; Katie was always confused. The girl stood behind her friend, meaning to scare her, but Katie turned around before she could let out a "Taco!!!"
"Hiya Katie!" The girl smiled. Her friend loved Invader Zim almost as much as she did; maybe even more. Katie smiled nervously and tucked her hair behind her ears. Then bad news.
"They got rid of the Zim section."
"What?"
The girl was clearly shocked; anyone could tell be her dropped jaw and worried look. They had never; in the history that she and Katie been going to Hot Topic, gotten rid of the sacred Zimmy section.
Seeing for herself, she walked over to they're usual corner. Sure enough, not even a little Gir keychain remained. It was covered instead with Spongebob posters, toys, wallets, and tapes!
The girl grinded her teeth together. Gone! Spongebob! What on Irk was going on?
She ran up to the store clerk, Katie not far behind.
"I demand to know where the Zim section disappeared to!"
The clerk looked like she was going to answer; then a confused look crossed her face.
"The whaty what section?"
The girl was, for the second time that day, shocked. The clerk certainty knew about the Zim section! Why was she acting weird?
The clerk shrugged her shoulders and asked: "Are you purchasing anything today?"
The girl grabbed Katie's hand and led her outside. The sky overhead was gray, and it looked like it was going to rain.
"Where are we going?"
"Where else? To HotTopic.com!"
Massachusetts, 4:15:
"What in the name of choco slushies?"
A girl with short blonde hair and a love for Zim sat staring at her computer screen not believing what she saw.
"Spongecrap, Jimmy Nerdtron, Rugcrap." She mummered. All the regular cartoon categories were there. All except Invader Zim.
The girl was an avid FF.net reader; and an equally obsessed Zim reader. She went to FF.net every day, reading fanfic after fanfic. But something was wrong; the Zim section wasn't there, like it should be.
She clicked 'Home'. No updates on any obliviated categories; just something about e-mail. The girl grinded her teeth together. First the cancellation, now this? She couldn't believe it!
"What are you doing?"
Her little sister walked in, staring at the screen.
"I'm looking up Zim fanfics, what else?"
"Zim?" her sister murmured. Her eyes glazed a bit, and she looked confused. The girl stared at her little sister.
"Zim? Invader Zim? With Gir, you're favorite character? We used to watch it every Friday?"
The little girl continued to look confused. Then she sauntered out of the room.
"Sheesh." The girl was surprised at her sister; she liked Zim as much as her older sister did!
"Oh, what on Irk is going on?" she groaned.
