Missing Piece

It was a rainy day in Enchancia and lightning was streaking through the clouds. The thunder rumbling outside woke Sofia up from her slumber. She got up, threw on her dress and bolted out her door. She was planning to go outside, but stopped running when she saw her whole family gathered in the throne room. She wore a look of confusion on her face as she carefully stepped into the room. She walked over to her family and noticed they were all frowning.
"Dad..."
Sofia whispered,
"What's going on?"
King Roland the Second turned to face his youngest daughter.
"Sofia..."
He didn't want to have to tell her this because it was about one of her most special friends.
"Somethings wrong with Cedric... these next few days... could be his last..."
He whispered that last part trying not to freak the young princess. She took a step back and gasped. She couldn't even respond. Her eyes welling with tears she ran up to Cedric's workshop as fast as she could. Never looking back. When she arrived at he oversized wooden door, she found it open. She quietly stepped in and looked around, taking the place in for the millionth time. She followed the soft sound of breathing over to Cedric's bed, where she found the sorcerer himself, laying under the covers with a towel over his forehead. When she saw her beloved friend, she raced over to him and put her small hand on his chest, which was slowly rising and falling, getting slower each second. Sofia felt a tear slide down her cheek and drop onto Cedric's hand. The weak sorcerer turned to look at Princess Sofia and smiled. Sofia looked at him with an alarmed face,
"Mr. Cedric! What's going on? Tell me you're going to be okay!"
He took her delicate hand in between his gloved palms and sighed.
"I wish I could Sofia..."
And with those words, his chest fell once more, never to rise again. The purple princess realized what had just happened and began to cry. The tears just wouldn't stop falling. She ran out of his workshop and down to Queen Miranda's bedroom.
"Mom!"
She shouted through tears.
She went over to her mom and began crying into the Queen's lap. Miranda tilted the princess's head up,
"Sofia, what's wrong?"
Sofia tried to speak, but found her self choking on her words.
"I-It's M-Mr. Cedric..."
after that she started crying hysterically. Her mother raised an eyebrow,
"What about Cedric?"
Sofia took a deep breath,
"H-he's gone..."
She whispered to her mom.
Miranda gasped and put her hand over her mouth.
"Sofia, are you sure?"
Sofia nodded, afraid speaking would just cause her to cry harder.
