Too Much of Us

Ellie looked up to spot where Joel was. She was hiding behind a car for ages now. She was even tempted to shout out, "Joel!"

"Where the hell are you?" She muttered. After a few minutes of waiting, she brought out her small hand gun and looked around the car, just to get her face smacked by Joel's leg.

"What was that for?" She demanded, holding onto her cheek.

"C'mon, we gotta move. There's way too much infected up East." Joel said. And like always, Ellie trailed behind him.

"Where are we going now?" Ellie asked.

"Back to Tommy's," He answered simply.

"Why?"

Joel didn't answer for a few seconds. "We're going to see if he can help us."

Ellie saw him finger the picture of her daughter, Sarah. "Ok,"

They found a town just a few 19 kilometers away from where they stopped for a drink. A house was pretty new; in fact it had no paint peeling off. Just a few broken windows, that's all. Joel raided the house while Ellie explored.

She laughed aloud. "This is so fucking great!" The light's above flickered to life.

"Got the electricity going!" Joel shouted.

"Nice!" Ellie shouted back.

"Hey, come down here for a sec." Joel said. Ellie had no choice but to obey. Joel had turned on a TV and was plopped onto the couch. The screen of the TV was static. Joel got out a disk and put it in the drive. A movie started to play.

"What's this called?" Ellie asked.

"It's a kid's movie, The Wizard of Oz." Joel said.

"Is it interesting?"

"Pretty much,"

"This is what they played back in the days?"

"Yeah,"

They watched until the tornado picked up the house.

"What the fuck? Can that happen?" Ellie asked.

"No. This is a fucking movie." Joel said.

The movie was done and Joel got out canned beans. Ellie grabbed a can and started eating it. It was unusually quiet.

"No infected?" Joel asked.

Ellie looked out the broken window, red auburn hair blowing in the wind.

"None," Ellie said, a bit surprised.

"You go upstairs and see if there's anything there. I'll keep watch," Joel said. Ellie nodded and headed upstairs. The bathroom was fairly clean. There were 3 rooms. 1 of the room had a big bed. Another had a mini fridge. The lat room interested Ellie the most. The walls were pink and had a closet filled with clothes. Magazines were spilled all over the place.

"Whoa," Ellie whispered.

"Everything all right up there?" Joel asked.

"Yeah, the rooms are fairly clean," Ellie called back. Joel came beside her.

"Brings back memories from the past," Joel said. "I'm going to crash in the master bedroom," Ellie opened up a door and... it was filled with darkness. A huge gust of wind almost knocked Ellie in the void. Ellie closed the door, wondering if every kid had one of these. But one thought disturbed her: This is going to be interesting.
