Reflex action

Jay Ditton had always been a runner. He was taught that that the best way to win a fight is to stop it from even starting. Now, Jay was no coward but he always found that running was the easiest way to get by. At least that's the way it was. Until the day everything changed. The day he started running towards something.

"Jay... Jay? Jay!"

Jay woke up with a jolt. Unfortunately for him, his instinct kicked in and caused him to vibrate his molecules at the same speed as air. Barry Allen called this 'phasing'. Whatever it was called, he ended up landing on his butt on the floor below his bed.

"Ow, ow, ow!" shouted Jay

Iris West came running down the stairs with a worried look on her face. Next down the stairs was Bart Allen. Impulse. Unlike Iris, Bart had an ear to ear grin on his face.

"Oh, Reflex." Bart laughed. "You still haven't mastered phasing, huh?"

Jay scowled at Bart. Ever since Jay had pitched his idea for a name: Reflex, Bart had been giving him a hard time. Jay stood up.

"Is there a reason every body's up except for me?" Jay realised Iris and Bart were both dressed and ready to leave.

"Going somewhere?" he asked

"Yeah" answered Iris with a smile. "so are you. Get dressed."

Bart stepped forwards. "You have four seconds." Bart and Jay both smiled.

Within seconds, Jay had run up the stairs, gotten dressed into his favourite green hoodie, black tracksuit pants and white sneakers. He had also had breakfast by the time he skidded to a stop in front of Bart and Iris.

"you've still gotta work on your stops." Commented Bart

"I know." Replied Jay

"And you took one second longer than I would've" Added Bart

"I know"

"And yo-"

"I KNOW!" yelled Jay

"BOYS!" Iris shouted. "we don't have time for this. Jay, I've packed your suitcase."

"Suitcase?" questioned Jay

Jay's face lit up. This was it. What he's been waiting for. He was going to stay at…

"The cave!?" Jay asked excitedly

Bart and Iris smiled

"wait am I gonna meet the league? The team? I don't even have a suit."

Bart ran to Jay's side.

"I can help with that." He ran upstairs.

When Bart reappeared, he was holding a green and black suit similar to his own.

"This belonged to…." Bart looked serious.

It was strange to see Bart, who was famous for his jokes and quick wit, without a smile on his face.

"his name was Thaddeus Thawne…Inertia. I made some modifications but, since I brought it with me from the future anyway, I thought you could have it."

Jay didn't know what to say

"um…wow. Thanks Bart. Seriously. I hope I can make this suit mean something other than what Thawne made it mean."

Bart smiled. "I'm sure you will, Reflex."
