Hello!

Just a heads up, this is a Spemily story, so you Emison and Spoby lovers might not be very satisfied with it.

I don't own the show or the characters or anything.

This is my first fic, so take it easy on me, haha...

Hope you like it :)

"What do you think makes someone a bad person?"

Spencer and Emily had gone to the Hastings' house after a normal, uneventful Thursday; Aria had snuck off to Philly with Fitz, and Hanna was with Caleb. Toby was busy that afternoon, and neither Spencer nor Emily wanted to be alone. So they had been studying in peaceful silence, Spencer lying on her bed with a textbook and Emily in an armchair by the window studying her math notes. They'd been at it for almost an hour until Emily suddenly asked the question out of the blue.

Spencer looked up from her textbook, slightly concerned. "What does that mean, Em?"

Emily was gazing out of the window looking pensive. "Back when Ali was still here... More than once I wished she would disappear."

Spencer sighed and closed the book. "I wished that too, sometimes. She certainly wasn't an angel, Emily. She was horrible to us... to you. I hated her for what she was doing to you. I didn't even fully know what was going on, I just knew there was something happening and I wanted to protect you from her."

Emily turned to look at Spencer and smiled sadly.

Spencer continued, "And even though we sometimes wished she wasn't here anymore, we didn't feel any relief when she disappeared. We were all crushed. So you're not a bad person." Spencer looked down shyly. "You're the most good-natured, sweetest person I know. I know you don't have anyone to tell you that right now so I feel like I should."

Emily blushed slightly. "Thanks, Spence," she whispered.

The next day at lunch, Emily arrived at their lunch table outside and sat down next to Spencer and across from Aria and Hanna, where she always sat. After greeting her, Hanna continued to recount a story she'd been telling, something about an encounter Mona had with one of their teachers.

Spencer wasn't listening, and she reached for Emily's hand and gave it a quick squeeze under the table, still slightly concerned about her after their conversation the day before. Emily gave her a warm smile, the kind that said I'm okay and thanks at the same time.

"Oh, guys! We should have a sleepover tonight! Kick off the weekend the right way!" Hanna exclaimed rather loudly, snapping Spencer and Emily back to the present.

"Yeah, that sounds like fun, Han," Aria agreed.

"Sure, I'm in," Emily chimed in.

"Great, Spencer's house at seven?" Hanna said.

"Wow, Han, it's so like you to plan a sleepover and offer up someone else's house," Spencer commented jokingly. "But sure. That sounds good."

That moment, Toby walked into the school's courtyard and headed to their table. After saying hi, Spencer got up and gave him a quick kiss, and, glancing at Emily afterward, noticed that she suddenly seemed to be very interested in her sandwich.

Emily liked Toby. He was her friend. But when he and Spencer started dating, she became a little more critical about him, and didn't like spending time with him quite as much. She chalked it up to feeling protective; he was dating her best friend, after all.

Toby left soon after, and the four friends spent the rest of lunch chatting and laughing. Emily was excited for their sleepover, and it felt good to have something to look forward to. It had been a dull week.

Well, that's the first chapter. I know it's really really short, I just wanted to sort of set the scene. I'll make future chapters a lot longer.

Please tell me what you think and leave suggestions for what you want to see in this story. (Seriously please do that! I could use some more ideas)

Thanks for reading!
