Walking Home

The music followed her as she walked away, twirling through the smoking remains of the billboard. She could feel it in her heart and through her bones. Star didn't care for that noise, though.

No. All she cared about was him.

Her heart froze. Tears ached to be released. The thought of his name, that betrayer's name, tore at her mind. It almost rolled off her tongue, she almost said it. But, she managed to do what her Mom had always told her to do when emotions broke though. She sucked it in.

And she kept on smiling. It wasn't one of true happiness, it was a facade. A mask.

But Janna didn't know that when she waved at her from across the street. All she saw was Star Butterfly, best friend to Marco Diaz, walking down the sidewalk late in the afternoon. She only saw the Show.

Star didn't wave back. She didn't have the energy to. She stared straight ahead and kept on her path.

Marco's house was just a few blocks away, a few more feet. Star could see the roof through the darkness behind her eyes. She couldn't wait. Couldn't wait to be home. Where that bitch Jackie couldn't rub it in her face. Where his parents would most likely question her why she was home so early.

They always cared. They were so loving and caring and sweet. They knew that Star had weird things. Things that leaked magic.

Like her scissors.

Ah, those scissors. So sharp that they could cut through dimensions.

Star smiled wider at the visual of those blades being drawn back and forth across something soft. Sadness mixed with happiness. His name was no longer on her mind. Her name was no longer on her mind. All she cared about was getting home, going into her room, locking the door, and using them.

On herself.
