A/N: This is just something that popped into my head last night and my buddy, a-lady-to-me, encouraged me to write it. I have to thank her for helping out with the ending a bit. Hope you all enjoy! :)

An Unexpected Visitor

Their bedroom was shrouded in darkness and John looked over at the clock on his side of the bed; bleary with sleep. He shimmied, uncomfortably, within the little space he was afforded. It was going on three in the morning and he felt a indistinguishable limb poke into his back. "Anna?" John whispered into the night.

"Hmmm?" she moaned back.

"Can you scoot over a bit? I'm practically falling off the bed over here," John requested.

Anna scoffed lightly in her sleep. "I don't know what you are talking about. You've had your elbow digging into my back for the past hour," she grumbled.

The two of them slowly turned over in their beds to face one another and found the source of their discomfort wedged between them, laying horizontally. John smiled down at their little boy who must have climbed into their bed, undetected at some point during the night. His small, pudgy thumb was nestled between his pouty lips. Thick, brown hair framed his face and cherub cheeks. The distinct design of dinosaurs that covered his little pajamas could be made out in the dimly lit room. John placed a kiss on their little boy's forehead. "Shall I take him back to his room? Or would you rather I just rearrange him a bit?" John inquired in a soft voice.

Anna let her hands sweep over their son's hair and smiled back at John. "No. Let him stay. He'll only be this little for awhile longer," she whispered back.

"And you say I'm the softy," John shot back playfully as he sat up. He moved the boy so that he slept parallel to them and tucked him into the blankets. Before trying to go back to sleep, John attempted to reach for Anna to give her a kiss goodnight without waking the child nestled between them. Anna sat up a little and their lips met for a chaste kiss.

"Good night, my love," she said as her eyes closed.

"Anna?" John asked once more.

"Yes?"

"Do you think we should get a bigger bed?" John asked.

"Hmmm," she responded as if giving the question some serious consideration. "Well, with one more on the way it probably wouldn't be the worst idea," Anna answered back as her hand ran across her growing baby bump. "It's already a tight enough squeeze and the baby hasn't even arrived yet."

John reached over their son to place his hand lovingly over their unborn baby.

"Your son or daughter is already pushing my body to the limits with every kick and roll. I think they are going to be putting up quite the fight when it comes to competing for space in this bed," she said half-joking.

Her words caused a smile to erupt on his face. Having Anna in his life was something he never felt he had a right to. Their son was a blessing in itself. And now another baby on the way. John could only guess he had done something truly amazing in a past life to have earned such an honor to be the husband to Anna and the father to her children. "If you had asked me five years ago, I could hardly imagine waking up in this bed to four limbs flailing around and landing in uncomfortable places."

The pair giggled quietly, not wanting to wake their boy. John looked at his small form and smiled as he felt their baby kick; as if already fighting for his attention as well. Then his eyes found Anna and the peace that washed over him was nearly breathtaking.

"But I wouldn't have it any other way."

Anna smiled sleepily back at him. "A bigger bed it is, then."

They fell back asleep with his hand still resting on her belly and her arm across their little boy, and for a moment before he fell asleep John was thankful for their smaller bed and their unexpected visitor.
