~Drumming~
Mello noticed it one morning when he walked in Matt's bedroom to get the lazy ass up; his friend was sitting up in bed shirtless with sleep mused hair. Mello could hear a beat in his head, like drums, pounding at his thoughts and echoing in his heart. It startled him into snapping his chocolate in half, large pieces of it breaking off as it hit the floor. The longer he looked at Matt the louder it got until all he could hear and see was Matt as though he had tunnel vision.
His breathing must have changed for Matt to look up, uncovered eyes glowing in the early sunlight that filtered in through the broken blinds. It was a jumble of noise in his head louder than any police sirens could ever be and Mello couldn't take it anymore. With fists clenched Mello turned and fled the room, out of the apartment and onto the streets. He hardly cared that he was only in his night clothes.
The beat in his mind didn't lessen as he ran and it didn't leave as the rain began to pour down hard enough to drown him. And it did not let up with the farther away he got. It only got louder as Mello sought the sanctuary of a nearby church to escape the rain and the bells echoing in his head.
It wasn't painful, in fact it made Mello's body tingle; that sort of ticklish pleasure or an itch you couldn't quite scratch, the kind that slowly drove you insane. Every voice he heard drummed in his ears and the vibrations went to his very soul, wrapping around it and holding it tightly in an iron grasp. Mello's jaw was slack as his eyes opened, hands over his ears.
The sound was so loud and the urge so great. It didn't matter that he hadn't noticed it before, it was there and it was calling to him, sounding throughout his entire being. He stood frozen and with a renewed clatter in his mind Mello's feet betrayed him, taking him back into the freezing rain and far from the church.
His feet slapped on the pavement, slipped even in the rain, and took him back to start. His body felt so warm and his thoughts were clouded with the noise that he had no recollection of getting home until he stood dripping wet in front of Matt's bed, chest heaving and heart beating out of his chest.
"You finally hear it?" Matt smiled at him, beckoning Mello to the bed where no games were in sight. Mello crawled onto the bed after stripping off his soaping wet clothes, the drums in his mind and soul getting louder and sweeter until he collapsed into Matt's arms, the redheads heart beating in tandem with his own.
"I hear you." Mello kissed him and was complete.
