This was written before the season two finale, and if anything drastically changes i'll fix it but it is mostly about Kensi's battle through the season. It takes place during the summer, sometime between seasons 2 and 3. Spoilers up to 2x24 "Familia"
Kensi Blye was in trouble. The undercover mission had failed and her cover was blown. She sat chained to a pipeline in a motel room. She had been knocked out and had lost all sense of time. But she had no doubt that her team would pull through and find her. She had been beaten, tortured, and pressured for information on NICS. But as a good agent should, she stays quiet. She takes the slaps across the face, the kicks to the gut, and the sexual assaults, why? Because that's how she has been trained all her life.
First her father, then NCIS. Both huge milestones in her life. Her father raised her like a son. She played sports, trecked through the wild, and shot guns. Then her father died, and she joined NCIS, met Jack, and started a new life.
Working for NCIS was something to keep her mind off of her father's death and Jack's deployment. Then Jack came back and left that one Christmas morning, she gave up on dating. "The one date rule" gave her satisfaction without the commitment. Callen, Sam, and Macy made life interesting and entertaining, The cases held adrenaline, a reason to keep moving forward.
Then Macy was murdered, Callen was shot, Dom joined the team, Callen came back, Dom went missing, was found, shot, killed, buried, laid to rest. All while Deeks was "liasoning" with the LAPD. Then he went missing, was presumed dead, found, then joined the team, and became her verbal sparring partner. All of that in about a year and a half. Her and Deeks constantly fought, disagreed, and argued, but they always had each others back, and that all it came down to in the end.
Then came the time she didn't have his. When Hetty told her Deeks was shot, she wasn't sure she would see him again. She then found out, he was shot so the Czechs could get to her, that he could have died, all because of her. Then she went undercover to stop a thief. And he was always there to catch her from falling away from herself. Then the roles were switched and she had to stop him from falling into the familiar Max Gentry. Then Hetty left in a whirlwind, with team almost back at square one.
Now, all she wanted was to get out of this godforsaken motel room and keep going with the life she built for herself. She was feeling slightly woosy from the blood loss at the gas in her shoulder. Kensi Blye had been through hell and back throughout her life, and there was no way she was going to die a prisoner. She was raised better then that, was taught better then that, and was a better agent then that. She knew her team had her back, just as she had theirs.
Her team could always surprise her. With Callen's mysterious childhood, Sam's Navy SEAL's day, and Deeks' upbringing. The whole team had secrets, but that didn't keep them from doing their job. They had trust and trust builds a good team. So when her team burst through the door, disarmed the guard, and unlocked Kensi. Deeks pulled her into his chest and she knew she didn't have to be strong anymore, and began to feel the pain she had endured during her kidnapping. Every single moment in her life had led her to this moment. Her determination from her father, the loss of Jack, the pain from Dom, the persistence of Callen, the strength from Sam, and the good outlook on life from Deeks. They all helped her become who she is today. She is a perfect piece of this chaotic puzzle that is her team. They were her team, her family, and she wouldn't change anything about it.
