Prologue
Hey guys! Okay, I just had a little need to blurb out this quick thing. Might be continued later, who knows. I just had a weird dream. Anyways, here it is!
My body was cold. I was floating in darkness and my eyelids felt heavy. I couldn't feel my limbs, though I believe they were there. Thoughts raced through my mind as I tried to remember.
Where am I?
Why am I?
Who am I?
I have no idea how long I stayed there. How long I had been there. There was no concept of time. No way for me to tell what was happening besides the occasional tap at the edge of my consciousness. There felt like an eternity for my mind to wander, but it felt like an instant.
After a minute, or a century, it began to hit me in fragments.
An image of a man in a white coat. "Try harder, we expect results."
An image of a boy with a chipped smile. "Don't expect to survive."
A window of people walking by. Hands banged on the surface desperately. "Let me out! I need out!"
A girl with a tattooed face. "Don't get too comfortable, it's only temporary."
The girl…there was something about the girl. She was familiar. I knew that girl and I cared about her. Was she family? A friend? As the images passed in my mind, her face began appearing more and more often.
A young girl. "Stop banging, they don't care."
A teen. "You're such a pussy, grow up."
A young woman. "…You're the only one who hasn't left."
A sister. "Hey, stick with me kid. I'll take care of ya."
A sister? Yes, that's right. Sister. She said she'd take care of me. That means she's coming for me, right? Right. She wasn't one to break promises. I remembered that much. But, who was she?
"If you could be anyone, who would you be?" a young voice asked, but I knew it to be my own. The tattooed girl sat across from me, her face shadowed as she leaned her head forward.
"Anyone, huh? Hmm…tough decision. There's so many options. Maybe, a space pirate! Or something like that. I'd be…Captain Jack, terror of the skies! Has a nice ring to it." She smirked, rubbing my head with a fist. I giggled.
"You're silly Jack."
Jack. That was her name. If I could feel my face, I'm sure I would've smiled. I knew something. The memories continued to flow little by little through me. But, a question remained even as my head filled with memories.
Jack…where are you?
