Jack O'Neill was a veteran of many wars, but the horrific scene that met SG-1 was like nothing he'd ever seen before.

The MALP hadn't shown any signs of a war being fought. They were caught completely off guard.

No bomb did this, no gun or missile fired from a distance. This act of cruelty was done in a methodical, deliberate manner. Up close. The bodies of the dead where left were they fell, men, women, children, even tiny babies. No one was spared. This was the act of butchers, not warriors.

War was never pretty. Things were done on both sides that were usually regretted. This didn't even come close to that.

Anger knotted his stomach into a tight ball. He looked around and saw similar looks of revulsion and rage on the faces of his team.

What made the whole situation even worse is that it wasn't the Goa'uld that did this. There's no indication the Goa'uld had been there for at least a few hundred years.

Mankind was capable of many wonderful, beautiful things. Today, however, it showed that it was also capable of great atrocities.

They couldn't wait around to see if the people who did this would return. With a heavy heart, the members of SG-1 turned and made the long trek back to the gate.
