Title: Farewell

Author's Note: WAAHOO! It's my first fic not of SenRu lineage! Muhahahaah! Well I wrote it because it was our quiz in literature class. To make an alternative ending for Spirited Away… we watched it… so I hope its not to sappy/cheesy… well I don't really care coz its how I write…

"Your parents are on the other side of the river. The moment you passed the test they woke up there." said Haku.

Haku held Chihiro by the hand as they sped along the picturesque streets of the spirit world. They ran on cobblestone-paved paths that wind along until finally it gave way to a set of stone stairs that opened out to a lush field.

The breath-taking view meant that her adventure was finally over and she would soon be in her world with her parents. Chihiro had pictured this moment to be a happy one. She imagined it would be a blur of joy and bliss but there was only a tinge of delight but a whole lot of pain. It pained her to leave the spirit world. But it pained her even more to leave the man she had come to love.

"Will I ever see you again?" she breathed out. She turned to look at Haku. She could see that he was sad. His eyes said it all. She wanted to cling to him, to let him hold her, to ask him to comfort her, to lead with him not to say the words she knew would fall out of his lips. But she didn't. She stood as firm as ever because if its one thing she learned in the spirit world it is courage.

"Maybe." he said. He couldn't say the words that he was sure would break her heart. He loved her too much.

"Please, don't lie to me. Tell me. Tell me the truth." she implored.

"No." he whispered, "I cannot see you again. I am bound to the spirit realm. But I need you to know that I would. If only I could."

"So this is the final time I would ever see you."

"Yes. No."

"I can still see you?" she felt a flicker of hope.

"No but I will always be by your side. I will always be here."

Tears started to form at the edges of Chihiro's eyes but she forced them back. This was farewell. She could not take it. She looked up again into the eyes of Haku. He took her into his arms and kissed her. He kissed her with all his love, all his passion, all his hope, all his regrets and all his life. He kissed her sweetly, gently, and purely. Then he pulled away, ending the farewell kiss.

"Go. Don't look back." he sighed.

"Goodbye."

"Farewell. I love you."
