Always
And the green eyes found the black.
"Take them, take them please, take them." He said as tears filled his eyes.
So Harry took the tears of Severus Snape.
"You have your mother's eyes."
Harry looked into Snape's eyes and found that there was more than just hatred and loathe, there was also kindness, and he was almost positive that he say love, but before he could be certain the eyes went dark and there was nothing left. Not even light.
"Snape."
That was the last thing Severus Snape heard in his life. However in his death he heard her voice. All alone in darkness he could make out just a small light. He watched as that small light turned to a memory.
He was walking in Godric's Hallow, to the one house that mattered to him. It was destroyed suddenly fear took him as he ran inside. Going through all the rooms he found James Potter's body in the hallway in front of his son's room. He heard a small infant crying, so he walked into that room. As he walked in he could not hold the tears back as he had for so long. He didn't care, he let them fall onto his love's body. Lily Evans was dead.
Soon he was out of that memory and into another, he was in the presence of Headmaster Dumbledore.
"You know why I made him stay at the Dursley's Severus?"
"Headmaster?"
"I wanted him to grow away from all of that fame so he would be a one of a kind wizard."
"Your calculations were correct professor, he has grown to be an extraordinary wizard."
"But I have protected him all these years to have him be ready for the right moment when Lord Voldemort will kill him and die himself."
"I have spied for you, I have lied for you, put myself in mortal danger for you. Everything was supposed to keep Lily Potter's son safe. Now you tell me you have been raising like a pig for slaughter."
"Why, Severus, do not tell me you have grown to care for the boy."
"I cannot let the last trace of Lily Evans go to waste."
And with that Severus Snape flicked his wand and a silver doe flew out of his tip as a patronus. The doe jumped around the room before disaperating.
"All this time, Severus?"
"Always." Severus said with a tear in his eye.
Another memory came to pass as the image of Harry Potter came to him and yelled at him.
"Tell them! Tell them how you stood there and killed Albus Dumbledore! How can you stand in his place after you killed him and watched him fall! You should be ashamed!"
He couldn't stand it. He had to leave! He flew out the window and left.
When he came to his and Lily's spot under a willow he cried as the son of Lily Evans was disgusted and enraged at him.
The light past and the last thing came into view.
"Severus."
"Yes, Lily?"
"When Harry is born I want you to be the godfather."
"I would gladly be your son's godfather if you truly wanted me to."
"But James Wants Sirius Black to be it."
"Well, Lily, if you ask me, I think the only thing that matters is you."
"Sevvy that was rude. I can't believe the only thing you can think about is yourself and me. You don't even care for if I'm happy. All those times I defended you, even after you called me a mudblood, I do not regret those, but they were the saddest thing I have ever done. Stay away from me and my family Severus." Lily said with a cry and disapperated right there at that willow where everything was broken.
"Always Lily."
And that was the last of Severus Snape. May he always be loved because he was, in fact,
The Bravest Man I Ever Knew.
