AN: So I hope that this will be a decent story, it sounds great in my head, but I would really appreciate reviews!

Chapter 1

EPOV

The fall isn't that long. All I have to do is take one step forwards and this could all be over. And the poetic irony, dying from a fall off of the same bridge that killed my parents, this should be how it ends. This should be my last moment. All I have to do is walk forwards and it's finished. I can do this.

"Hello there," who is that? I don't know that voice, and it's too dark to see him from where he is. "weren't planning on going for a late night swim, I hope. It's awfully cold tonight, you wouldn't want to catch a cold."

"Who are you? Why are you out here all alone?"

"Funny, couldn't I ask you the same thing? But regardless, my name is Damon, Damon Salvatore. And who might you be?"

"E-Elena Gilbert." By this time, Damon had stepped out of the shadows and close enough for me to see his face. He was strangely handsome, and very mysterious looking. I don't know why, but I felt unreasonably secure with him there and undoubtedly attracted to him. "You still didn't answer why you were out here all alone."

"True, let's just say I was taking a midnight stroll."

"Why haven't I seen you around town before?"

"I'm new in town. Staying with my Uncle Zach and my younger brother, Stefan. Zach has been here for a while, but we've come to live with him for a while. Now why are you here, Elena Gilbert?"

He said my name as if I was lying about who I am. As he looked into my eyes, I suddenly felt overcome with the need to tell him what I was doing there, but I wasn't afraid. "Well, since you're new, you wouldn't know what happened last spring, my parents' car flipped over this bridge with myself in the car, but I was the only one to survive. These past few months have been horrendous. Everyone staring at me, questioning me on how I made it out alive, asking if I was okay, wondering when I would snap. Well it appears that I have. I came out here tonight to end it all." Why was I telling this stranger about my plans of suicide? He could take me to a mental health center, and turn me in.

"You were going to kill yourself, on the very bridge that ended your parents' lives? How ironic. You know that's a terrible plan."

"Well it seems as though you've ruined that now. Don't you want to take me to the mental hospital and report that I'm suicidal, I hear they'll compensate you for your troubles."

"No, no. You see, I don't think you're suicidal, I think you're simply a troubled girl, who misses her parents, and is tired of grieving but can't move on because everyone else is still stuck in the past. I think whatever family you have left would be devastated to know about this, and would have blamed themselves had I not shown up. And I think it's time we get you home."

"I don't have to go anywhere with you. You're a stranger."

"But Elena, don't you want to accept my offer of driving you home?"

Suddenly, I did want him to drive me home, and it didn't matter that he was a stranger. I didn't feel like I was in any danger, but I have no real judge of character. "Okay Damon, you may give me a ride home. But just to my house."

"I'd be delighted to. Maybe we can get to know each other better. You look very much like someone I knew years ago. Do you happen to know a Katherine Pierce?"

"No I'm sorry, I have no idea who she is. How did you know her? Was she from around here?"

"She's been in town before, but she traveled a lot, so I'm sure you probably never met her."

I still don't know who this dark haired stranger was, or why he was so caring, but I was thankful that for once, someone didn't comment on my dead parents, and ask a thousand questions, including how I was doing.
