Decisions Made2

Ezra walked across the campus. His hood pulled up over his head and his chin tucked in his jacket. It was a cold day, and getting colder. He had decided that there were two people he needed to talk with before he made his decision about leaving. He knew one of the people would be Daisy, but the other person he had decided he wanted to talk to had even surprised him. He looked up as he approached the gazebo. There she was, sitting there. Her knees pulled up to her tightly with her arms wrapped around them. He slightly nodded his head at her as he walked up the few steps and then sat on the bench beside her. He too, looked out over the campus, searching for the words he needed to say…

"Shelby, I just got some news this morning that's really scaring me," he told her, an embarrassed, yet confused, expression on his face. Shelby slightly turned her head to look at him, her eyes squinted because of the wind that was blowing her way.

"What is it Freakin', it can't be that bad." He sighed, wishing it wasn't as bad as it really was. He leaned his head back on the bench and watched as it lightly began to snow.

"I wish it wasn't, but it is," he muttered to himself. The wind began to blow the snow towards him, it lightly landing on his face. "Shelby, they found my biological parents and they want me to come live with them. Catch is, my biological mom is dad, and it would just be me and my unknown dad." He looked at her, knowing she wasn't expecting anything like that.

"Geez Freakin', guess that is tough. I'm sorry about your real mom" Shelby shifted to face him, her expression a concerned one. "It's up to you and only you?" Ezra shrugged his shoulders, feeling more lost than ever. Shelby was right, they had dumped all this on him, not even offering a vote of confidence.

"Guess so," he sighed. "I just thought, since I think of the Cliffhangers as my family and all, that I should get you guys' opinions." Shelby placed her hand on Ezra's shoulder and gave him a sympathetic smile.

"That's nice of you, Ezra, but it's your decision," she told him. Deep down she wanted him to stay, but she knew that he should do what was best for him.

Ezra nodded his head, knowing Shelby was right. Over the months since the Morp, he had come to realize Shelby was a lot smarter and nicer than she made out to be. 'And she also gives good advice,' he reminded himself. He furrowed his brow, nodded his head, and slowly stood up.

"Thanks for you help, Shelb, it got me thinking." He then turned away to leave…

"He, Ezra," Shelby spoke as she sat up straight. Ezra turned around to Shelby, forcing a smile.

"We, I mean, 'I' would miss you, too," Shelby said, a considerate look in her eyes. Ezra nodded his head, as the forced smile was gone, replaced by a real one. He slowly turned around and walked away, knowing now that Mt. Horizon would always be his 'true' family.
