Hey y'all. Been a while since I wrote anything, but hey. I hope you like it.
I OWN NOTHING EXCEPT FOR THE WRITING PART. YEAH.
SPOILER WARNING FOR IF YOU HAVEN'T BEATEN THE GAME.
The light shifts as the clouds split to reveal the sun. After an hour or so of cold weather, this was a nice change. A really nice change, especially after freezing winds and soggy snow. It made up for all of the terrible things of the weeks before. All the heart ache, all the worry. Other stuff too, personal stuff. But to him personally, the cloud shift didn't do too much to change anything.
If it had come sooner, maybe it would have worked. Just maybe. If it had came before the sadness set in deep, like a mildew scent on an old stuffed toy. It wasn't a pain though, more like a longing for something. Something he never knew. Perhaps it was a someone? He didn't know. Something, for sure, was indeed missing.
Today he didn't care.
He was set on doing it.
Even if he had to use every last bit of strength left, he was going to do it.
Protect the Commandant. Bring back Asch, alive.
The second part wasn't assigned. It was a personal goal. If Asch didn't make it back, he sure as hell wasn't. Bring him back.
The old Asch, the friend, the brother, the partner.
Not the Asch who is a traitor, a monster, a loner.
He shouldn't have left. No way in hell is there a reason as to why he left. He was being stupid when he went after that scum. He just wasn't thinking, there is no way around the Score. Not permanently. Or at least that was what Van said.
Though the matter of Van's trustworthiness is debatable, he IS the Commandant. The God-Generals had to trust him. No matter what. He was superior, he is better. Unlike Sync, he isn't worthless.
Though today, he would show the Commandant and the others that he never was worthless. That he had a purpose. This should work, right? It is just the replica's group against him, it has to work. Then he can get Asch back. It mustwork. He can't lose Asch. Not after all this.
After an hour had passed since Eldrant's defenses had been compromised, his stomach went sour. He could see the group advancing toward him in the distance, but something wasn't right. Something went wrong. Terribly, terribly wrong. Asch wasn't there.
Sync knew his heart wasn't in it when he fought. His purpose wasn't there. He was lost. Without Asch, he couldn't think straight, couldn't block, couldn't cast right. Then again, maybe his heart wasn't in living through the battle, but rejoining his fallen friend. His heart received its wish. Sync didn't last ten minutes against his well armed adversaries. The replica had won.
As he was fading, he heard the whisper of a familiar voice, "C'mon, we're going to be late." With a small smile he replied with a soft, "I know..."
He found the something that was missing.
How'd y'all like it?
Too sad for ya?
