My reason to breathe
This is a complementary one shot to my other story Evening Star.
I had thought that I would never see her again. A fact that had weighed on my mind for fifteen years. Imagine seeing the person you were made to love, a cute tiny two year old; hair in two piggy tails and big brown knowing eyes. The whole world had changed the minute I saw her. She was now the reason I was breathing, my one and only reason for being alive.
Imagine that all too suddenly she's ripped out of your life and taken half way around the world. You'll never see her grow up; you'll never be there to love her, to protect her. You'll never know her and she'll never know you.
Imagine you're life becomes meaningless, you feel as though you're not really alive. You still have friends, you still go out, you still breathe, but you never fully connect, never fully give anything your full attention. You're going through the motions of living but you're not really alive. Imagine that for fifteen years.
Then suddenly, one night that all changes; you're sitting on a coach with the TV on, but you're not really watching it. You're just sitting looking at nothing; you're mind's blank. The door bangs open and you're best friend struts in. You notice he seems elated about something, but you don't really care what. He sits down next to you and turns the TV off. You can tell he's going to tell you regardless of whether you listen or not. He begins by telling you about his night. Then something he says catch's your attention; a name, the name, her Name. A knowing smile flashes across his face, he saw you tense at the name.
He starts from the very beginning, torturing you slowly. You don't hear the name; you think you imagined him saying it. You start to fall back into the dull numbness and then he says the name. He tells you she's here; in La Push and its not just a visit, she's back for good. You're heart is flying. You rush outside, you don't bother to take you're clothes off, you phase, the shreds of your clothes fluttering to the ground like snow. For the first time you're running with a purpose. You run faster than you ever have before, the chilly night air whipping through your fur. You see the familiar house of the alpha. You Phase back into your human form and jump onto the roof. You find the window to the spare bedroom. The lights off. You gaze through the window and then you see her. She's asleep, so peaceful, so beautiful. You're heart beat becomes erratic, you feel as if you're going to explode from happiness. You can feel the life returning to your body. You finally have a reason to live again, a reason to breathe.
