Dany was of Fire and Blood.

But then, she was sold to Drogo like a broodmare. It was only her good fortune that he turned out to be gentle, and kinder than Viserys at any rate.

She derived her strength from being his wife. As long as he was around, no one dared touch her. Because she belonged to the Khal.

She became the Khaleesi.

Her husband humoured her, and attributed her temper and her new found strength to his son growing within her. She learnt to love Drogo because she felt protected and safe for the first time in her life, and because loving him was the only way she could have survived her fate.

And then she was the Mother of Dragons.

She commanded men and people looked up to her for protection. She became the Mhysa. And like many rulers are wont to do, she even took a lover of her own. Daario Naharis. A guy who was absolutely mad about her.

She enjoyed the combination of worshipful adulation and love that Daario, only too willingly, showered upon her. For the first time ever, she was being desired. Perhaps, it even stoked her ego.

Because, now, she was his Master and he was her servant. She basked in the knowledge of it. She soaked it up like sponge. And whether or not she ever actually felt anything for him, in the end, it was all about her.

When the moment came for Dany to leave for Westeros, she did so with little regret. She was just choosing herself, like always.

Then she hears of this King in the North. Perhaps, she had been expecting a big hulk of a man, like the Usurper was rumoured to be, and instead, when she sees him for the first time, he is young and stubborn. Not much different from herself.

He came to her neither a servant nor a suitor.

He was a king and he needed her help. He was a king and he refused to bend the knee. He was a king and he was elected. He was a king, but before that he had already won battles.

He was a king. She was a queen. But not of each other.

He respects her decisions. But he also respects himself, enough to refuse her, the Dragon Queen, and she is intrigued.

She was a conqueror, yet he stood before her unconquered. He has commanded men, yet he does not command her. She was a queen, and he was a king.

And for the first time ever, in each other, they find an equal.
