Water.

Water is a beautiful thing, but a dangerous force. It can look like peaceful blue green glass, a watery Sleeping Beauty waiting for the wind to awaken it.

Water can be those rough waves that kill and drown, that injure and scar. It can be a harbourer of monsters and nightmares that you try so hard to forget.

Water can be a memory, water can be a wave. Water can be a job, water can be a paradise. It can be the thing you love or hate the most.

But, most of all, water is full of stories. Water holds the tales of those who thought their last thoughts, the chilly prison of lost prisoners still unfound. Water holds the tales of silly beach days and of laughter and happiness and lost cheese sandwiches to the seagulls.

Water holds dreams of surfers, fishermen, boaters, and swimmers alike- all using it to gain something.

Water holds lost mementos of broken bottles, sea glass, band aids, and the picked clean carcasses that are pretty shells.

And, perhaps, the most dangerous thing it holds is Lapis Lazuli. The gem who wielded the gauntlet of the ocean as her weapon, and used it to imprison herself and that awful Home World gem- Jasper.

She's found things in the water- once her home, her comfort, her paradise, now her jail cell- that makes her wonder about the complicated simplicity that is the human race. How they could lose so much to the water.

How they could stand to enjoy something that has brought about the end of so many of their own kind. How they could put themselves at the mercy of a being that isn't alive, that can't be reasoned with.

Sentimental fools.

And now she is one of them. And, now she has lost her way to fly, her wings of this dangerous beauty, water. Now, she has made her own prison. Now, she supposes, she has become a sentimental fool too.

She just hopes Steven understands.
