"Oh Say, Can You See..."
"Daddy!" Amanda Specter exclaimed as she watched the colors from the fireworks pour from the sky.
"You like them, Mandy?," Harvey asked his little three- year- old red haired daughter as she sat in the pit of his crossed legs.
"Yep! You see them, mommy?" Amanda asked looking over at her mother, Donna, as she was holding Mandy's little brother, Gordon, close to her. He was only a year and half so the loud noises still sometimes bothered him.
"Yes, honey, it was beautiful, but I don't think Gordon is having such a good time," Donna said as she cradled his little blonde head a little more closely against her body.
"Hey big guy," Harvey said gently as he leaned over to get his son's attention. He stroked Gordon's head as he saw Donna turn away to reach into the voluminous bag she had carried over her shoulder when they entered the football field to find a place to sit and watch the fireworks display.
"I think this will help," Donna said as she had pulled a pair of ear muffs and pulled them over Gordon's ears. At first he protested and then Donna pointed to the sky as another Roman Candle exploded in the sky. This time Gordon smiled and squealed excitedly. Donna gathered him closer in a little hug and kissed his cheek seeing he was now happy.
At that moment, Harvey seeing his son now happy and enjoying the beautiful Independence Day celebration kissed his wife softly on the lips. After pulling apart gently, Harvey and Donna smiled and simply looked into each other's eyes, still passionately in love with each other, after almost five years' of marriage and children, and more captivated with each other than with the fireworks booming and filling the sky with beautiful colorful streaks of light.
"Mommy, Daddy! You're missing them!" Amanda squealed gently hitting her daddy on the chest to get his attention.
"No we're not," they said together.
Later that night when both children were sound asleep exhausted from the happy day they spent with their parents, Harvey who lay cradled in Donna's arms and legs much like his son had been earlier in the day, turned his body leaning against Donna's naked bent leg, reached up and placed a hand on Donna's neck gently holding her face.
"What is it?" Donna said holding Harvey's hand to her face as she searched for the answer in his big brown eyes. His eyes which melted her heart every time no matter how much he could always exasperate her.
"You are wonderful. I always love watching how you know exactly what the kids need just like you always have with me. I love you."
Donna smiled and then smirked. "Do you know what I need?"
"Yes, and I think I am about ready to give it to you," quoting himself from so long ago on the first night they met.
"This time it is sex," she whispered seductively remembering the last time he had said that to her. She could almost remember verbatim every word they had said to each other that night.
Harvey then came to his knees and as they kissed they fondled each other's naked bodies becoming more urgent in their need to be joined as one until Donna lay beneath Harvey. Their bodes entwined and became one as Harvey and Donna celebrated the 4th with their own fireworks.
