Title: Anymore

Summary: Vincent can't do this anymore, but that does not mean that he is willing to let go...

Warnings: Ohh...there is no way I can word this correctly... Death. Well, what do you know, I guess I can! This made me cry...

Disclaimer: I don't own them, but can you just imagine how things would turn out if I did?

Looking down at the dead grass, crimson eyes slowly followed the brown blades of vegetation to the smooth stone that bore simple words. It was a sad day when it happened. He was working on the paneling for the bottom of a new type of airship when the supports snapped and the entire craft landed on him.

No one found him for days.

Guilt wracked his mind as he sat beside the simple headstone. He should have kept in touch with pilot, with everyone, really. But, he still had not found a way to atone for his sins. Now, without Cid Highwind, it appeared as though he never would. Granted, the pilot was not very good when it came to advice on how to repair his relationship with the brunette woman whom he had let down, the quickly, foul-mouthed man always had a habit of saying exactly what he needed to hear and making him smile.

He never told him that. ...There was so much that he did not say...

For the last twenty-nine days, he just sat beside the pilot's tombstone in silence, unsure of what to say or do. Once he heard about the accident; a frantic phone call from Tifa had given him the bad news; he made it Rocket Town as fast as he could. Looking into the hanger once he arrived, Vincent nearly threw up. He was used to blood; he killed for a living. ...But this was different. The Captain was not supposed to perish first. At all! He was not supposed to die at all! He was going to be the one to live forever, to go down in infamy.

...Not be crushed under the weight of his own dreams...

The investigator told them that they classified it as a freak accident even though the supports showed signs of tampering. The rest of Avalanche were looking for any clues that could tell them who wanted the kind-hearted man dead. But, none of that mattered. Knowing who did it would not bring the Captain back. Nothing could bring him back now.

"...I don't..." he muttered before looking up at the sky. Sighing softly he looked back at the smooth stone that bore the blonde's name. "...You left us..." Tapping his metallic claws against the stone, he looked back up at the cloudy sky, willing back tears before they could fall. "You...you promised..." Breathing deeply, he struggles to compose himself, "You were... You were going to live forever..." But now...now he was gone. Returned to the Lifestream that Vincent could never enter. "I can't... Chief..." Struggling to get the words out, Vincent slowly rose to his feet, keeping his eyes fixed on the sky. "I can't stand to be with you when... Why did you let this happen? ...Why did you leave?"

Getting no response, Vincent sighed, "You know...knew... You knew that I can't die. ...And you left... You died... I can't... I can't tell you... I can't... Can't be with you, Chief... Not anymore... I can't see you anymore... No one can..." Taking a step away from the stone, he ground his teeth together before looking back at the stone and stepping back towards the headstone. "...You were going to help me get over her... ...What do I do? ...How can I forgive myself for my sins against her when you aren't here anymore? ...What do I do now, Chief?"

Sitting back down as the sky opened up appeared to weep for the loss of Cid Highwind, Vincent murmured brokenly, "What do I do without you, Cid?"
