You noticed that look in his eyes right before the door to light opened and led you home. It was when the two of you were sitting by the water together that you noticed it and he confessed to you how much he envied you and you told him how much you envied him. You made a silent agreement to never speak of it again, but you both thought about it every day.

It was then that the look scared you. You think about it and maybe you knew it was always there but you just never saw it. You matured a lot on that so called journey so maybe that's why you only noticed it then. It broke you inside because you knew it would never be the same between you after that. You saw something in his eyes that day that you vowed to never forget and to never give in to.

You got back to the islands and settled in, the shock settling and finally just turning into a hum in the back of your mind. Kairi was there and you were never happier until you looked at him and that look was still there. You'd look away and avoid him until you're blush was gone and you could keep a straight face for more than ten seconds.

He knew you didn't feel anything so he kept the tension down when Kairi was around. He did it for you so things would work out between the two of you, and you know it. You won't acknowledge it, but you know it. You know it and he knows it and at some times you see the curiosity in Kairi's eyes and you wonder if she knows and you hope that she doesn't because that would ruin everything and your chance with her would be lost.

It's the day Kairi doesn't come out because she's sick that the two of you are stuck together. Kairi's already kicked both of you out, saying she can take care of herself and needs some rest or she won't be better by tomorrow. You're on the Paopu tree in your normal spots but the tension isn't normal and the sparkle in his eyes you've never seen before. He's blinking more than normal and holding back tears and you know it's your fault.

When he chokes back what you know would be a sob and walks away you jump down and run after him before you know what happened. You call his name and he snaps around. You almost run into him and you're so close you have to look straight up at him. He looks angrier than you've ever seen him, but the softness in his eyes is what's scaring you.

You know everything, don't you? He asks you that and you merely nod. How could you be so cold? How could you seem so blind but be so informed and act so damn clueless? Everyone knows. Everyone's been cold to him since you got back and you know exactly why and you know it's your fault for not accepting what he's telling you. If you accepted it so would everyone else.

He doesn't say anything else and you turn and walk away. You don't want that. You don't want anything to do with him now because he's killing you inside with that look in his eyes and it's all his own fault for putting his guard down and assuming you'd be the best friend you always were. You're walking away and his eyes are on you and you can hear the tears drop to the sand. Because at the end of time he'll still be there for you and you won't even notice.
