A/N – Just a cute little plot bunny that hopped into my head when I realised why the date of Gordon's birthday looked familiar! Pure fluff and so sweet you will need to brush your teeth afterwards!
Thanks to everyone who reviewed Wrong Assumptions, you gave me the courage to publish more! And thanks to my big sis Kaet Huntacwene for betaing again.
Dedicated to all those Gordon fans out there wishing he was theirs this Valentine's Day!
Disclaimer: Don't own them, just like playing.
Enjoy… I hope! x
Valentine's Baby
14th February 2043
Lucy sat in the hospital bed, staring down at her newest son who lay peacefully in her arms. He had beautiful eyes, huge and amber, and fluffy auburn hair. Gordon Cooper Tracy. Jeff had once again insisted that the boy be named after an astronaut, Lucy hadn't even bothered arguing this time. Gently rocking the baby, she smiled to herself.
"Mommy!" The door to her hospital room burst open and her two eldest sons ran to the bed. "Can I see? Can I see?" Three year old Scott pulled himself up onto the bed and snuggled next to Lucy, the eagerness to see his newest brother clear on his face. Lucy carefully lifted Gordon in one arm and pulled Scott onto her lap with the other, then placed Gordon into Scott's waiting arms. She smiled and, sure that the baby was safe with her eldest, leaned down to help Johnny, who was struggling to climb onto the bed too.
A low chuckle came from the doorway as Jeff entered the room, carrying eighteen month old Virgil, a camera and a huge bunch of red roses. He set the roses down on the bedside table and passed Virgil to Lucy. She settled him on the bed beside John and pulled all four boys towards her. Jeff chuckled and snapped a photo.
"Mommy, what's it called?" John asked, his blue eyes fixed on the baby's face.
"He, not it sweetie, is called Gordon. Gordon Cooper Tracy. Your new little brother."
"Gordy." Virgil giggled, reaching out a little hand to stroke Gordon's hair.
"Yeah Virg," Scott looked up at his now second-youngest brother, "Gordon is your little brother. 'Cos you got me and Johnny as big brothers and now you got a little brother too. Now I got three little brothers, don't I Daddy?"
"Yeah you do, little man." Jeff grinned at Lucy, pride shining in his eyes.
Jeff watched his sons as they all sat around Lucy, Scott was proudly cradling Gordon in his arms, John leaned in as close as he could to his new brother, gently stroking the fluffy hair and muttering to himself. Virgil just smiled and watched his older brothers fussing over the new baby.
Jeff didn't miss the yawn that John tried to hide behind a hand or Virgil's drooping eyelids. It was way past their normal bedtimes and the excitement of a new brother had worn them all out.
Lucy looked over at her sons, Scott and John were slumped against each other in the armchair at the side of her bed, with Virgil tucked between them, all fast asleep. She let out a happy sigh and smiled up at Jeff.
"Happy Valentine's Day, my love." He whispered and handed her a card. The card was simple, a red heart with the words 'I love you' curled across it, and Lucy smiled at Jeff as he leant in to kiss her.
"Oh honey, I totally forgot, I'm sorry." Lucy murmured but Jeff chuckled.
"You've given me the best Valentine's present imaginable." Jeff told her and together they looked down at the sleeping baby in her arms.
A/N – Yes, ok, a bit sappy at the end there, but the muse was feeling especially romantic… I don't quite know why?
Anyway, seeing as it is Valentine's Day, special pink, heart-shaped virtual cookies for all reviewers! Love you guys! x
