Sorta of another story in the Fool universe. I figure Sound can get very quiet and Sasuke seems like someone who would think things to themselves in the middle of the night that they would never admit to anyone, not even themselves in the light of day.
Summary: Sasuke understands many thing in the space between midnight and dawn in Sound. From his own fears and weaknesses to bonds that may hurt but simply can't be broken. The parallels between students and teachers are obvious to Sasuke, right down to the barbed wire bond that binds them all together. Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Frog, Snake, and Slug.
He was afraid.
He admitted what he was afraid of was not his brother, though he did frighten him but the possibilities of becoming like him.
He ran because he cared about his friends that caring that made Naruto so strong.
That caring which gave his brother the ability to obtain Mangekyou.
He knew if he stayed one day his drive for revenge would make him slip and do the deed that was key to obtaining the ultimate form of his bloodline.
Sometimes when he was awake at night, he mentally said to his brother:
'If hatred makes a person strong, fucking explain Naruto! When he devotes himself to protecting someone nothing can stop him. I don't think he knows how to hate, if you're right he should be so very weak but he's not.'
There are still so many things I have to ask him about.
What really happened with the masked nin he called Haku, why his brother seemed so intent on capturing him, why under those smiles of his he held such pain-filled eyes…
He thought Orochimaru was a fool at times.
His wish to destroy his former team mates was a foolish wish indeed.
Sasuke knew that, yes it was entirely possible for him to kill one of his teammates but breaking the bond?
Well even he could not find something sharp enough to destroy it.
It hurt to think of it, like touching barbed wire, because now that was what their bond was.
Painful memories and a past that can't be destroyed, one that will follow you to death and beyond.
Sasuke knew that Team 7's bond was strong enough to survive even now.
Nearly unbreakable even.
But that did not mean seeing each other was a nice thing.
For whom likes pain even if it is inescapable.
Sasuke knew fear clouds one judgement and in the dark lonely nights in Sound when he had nothing else to think about,
He realised he was the worst kind of coward.
