Wings of Fire: A Scavenger's Story -CHAPTER 1-

Mara is driven by sorrow to runaway from her camp, running away from the deaths of the people she loves. But can she really just escape her sadness by running away from her fellow human? I thought this would be a creative way to approach the Wings of Fire, since everyone seems to be focusing on dragons and ships (I can't blame them, #SunnyFlight FU FATESPEAKER!)

"Emotions"

One of the things you get used to is deaths when you live among beasts of many variants. Mara didn't know what it felt like to lose a loved one… Until one fateful hunt. Her mother and she were informed on an evening while they were making supper… Awaiting her father's return from the hunt. Mara knew it would be unseeingly for a 18 year old woman to cry, but she did let a few tears pass. After that, Mara was never the same. She became more solitary, spending her time in the woods, even though the danger of the beasts. The only beast Mara ever saw was flying up above the woods, and from the color it seemed like a Mud Beast, a large one at that. Eventually, Mara became to visit her mother occasionally, but not enough to see her concealed emotions. 3 months after her father's death, Mara's mother had committed suicide, scouts found her body at the bottom of the cliff where Mara's village stood. Mara feelings were bitter, sad, angry, and vengeful at the same time. "I'm not going to take this anymore," Mara whispered to herself, her hands clenched onto head, sitting at her father's old desk. "I..I..I don't want to deal with the sadness of losing people anymore I don't want to mourn!" Mara exclaimed, tears streaming down her cheeks. She banged her fist on the desk. "I don't want a family or need one," she decided, wiping her cheeks on her animal hide robe. "I don't care if I get eaten by a Sky Beast, OR ANY OF THOSE COLD HEARTED LIZARDS!" Mara screamed, the people walking by looked in her window to see is she was alright, but continued on with their business. "I'm going to go… Now… So no more of the people I love tear me apart…. I'm not going to be with anyone… So I won't be heart-broken when they eventually die, like everyone else on this land!" With that she began packing her belongings, and waiting for nightfall to steal some food and weapons… Tonight Mara would be free of her shackles.
