Max POV

I hissed out loud at the feeling of twigs and bushes scraping at my legs as I ran, my backpack painfully banging against my back with every step.

Oh right you have no idea what i'm doing. Or who I am.

My name is Maximum Ride. I'm 17 years old and a girl. (Duh. Maximum can be a girls name to) I'm also currently running for my life.

Se I grew up in the picture perfect family. But when I was 9 that all changed. My Mother was killed in a car accident and my father went nuts. At first it was just yelling but then he would start hitting me. And as time went by every time he got drunk he was worse. He got to the point where he would beat me so hard I wouldn't even be able to mine when he was done with me.

I was never able to run but now I can. And I am. I'm running as fast as I can and I have no idea where i'm going. All I know is away. Far away.

I planned it a little bit though. I saved up my money and I have 500 bucks burning a hole in my pocket and food bouncing around in my backpack along with a change of clothes and some pictures of my Mom along with my Birth certificate and Passport.

See? I planned a little bit.

Now back to the present.

I've been running for nearly Two hours now and I have maybe one more hour before my Father goes looking for me for my nightly beating. But not anymore. He will never have control over me ever again.

My birthday is in 2 months and then ill be 18 and free from him forever.

Oh yeah and his name? Jeb. Jeb Michael Batchelder.

I could see a small light through the tree's and it looked kinda like a fire. And i'm cold. Like, really cold.

So thats where I headed. But as I ran and got closer the fire grew bigger and bigger and I soon saw people standing around it. Well shit. I could now hear their laughter and it was all guys and some of them sounded drunk.

But I can't turn back now. There is no way their stopping me. And anyways, a doubt anyone is looking for me yet.

Before I could really dawdle on that thought much I ran into something hard. But then that something was holding onto me and I could hear a deep chuckle coming from above me. I slowly looked up to see the most gorgeous guy I have ever seen in my whole life.

And he was laughing at me!

Well I guess I did kinda just run into him.

I started to pull away and his hands gripped my shoulders so well I didn't REALLY want to pull away.

"What is a pretty girl like you doing out here alone this late at night. Dont you know that men would take advantage of a pretty little thing like you?" He said softly and I nearly melted. God his voice is sexy!

Wait did he say I was pretty? Oh right he asked a question.

"I'm running duh."

Oh thats just great. I sound like a re- He's laughing at me again!

His shoulders were shaking as he laughed and it was a very nice laugh, it made me smile. He then lets me go and shoved his hands into his pockets, "I'm Fang." he said then smiles down at me as he waited for me to say my name.

I couldn't help but bite my lip and look down nervously. Should I tell him…? Before I really even decided I could hear myself saying, "I'm Max."
