Alex was right when he said she's the kind of girl who needs commitment. She had a whole plan, see, only it's gone totally wrong. There wasn't supposed to be a little sister married to a soldier, or a hostile older sort of sister, or a dead mom, or an alcoholic dad, much less an affair-thing with a guy in love with a married woman. Lexie Grey used to know where she was going, and it was a really good place. Now, she hasn't the faintest clue, and she's beginning to remember just how much it rains in Seattle.

Lexie seriously thought she was going to marry her college boyfriend. They got together her junior year, an everyone thought they would last forever. As it turns out, everyone was wrong, especially Lexie. During medical school, it was mostly just an odd date here and there, until Tom. Tom was a mistake, and that's all Lexie can bare to say on that topic. And now, Alex. Another one she should have seen from the start. Alex trumps the list of bad relationships. Lexie decides there most be something in the air of Seattle Grace that makes people make bad decisions.

Lexie knows she doesn't appear damaged. She isn't really. She had a good childhood. Not such an excellent adulthood, if she can really be considered an adult. Things haven't gone the way Lexie imagined, but she really does believe in the underlying goodness of the world, in a slightly diluted manner, sappy as it sounds. Lexie is selfish, and angry, and lonely, and above all else, confused, but she's going to make it. One way or the other, she'll make to the end of her intern year, and then . . . well, then she'll have to see. But Lexie'll survive. She will.

When her father dies, Lexie isn't surprised. She knew it was coming; God, it was inevitable anyway, so what if it was sooner rather than later? She knows when Meredith comes to tell her. She's known for long time.

She doesn't cry. She calls Molly, and then a funeral home. She makes the arrangements, because that's what Lexie Grey does. Because she's a responsible girl. And she really does care. After the funeral, she clears out the house, and sells it. She packs her stuff, buys a plane ticket, and Meredith and Dr. Yang (Cristina?) see her off. It's awkward.
