"Dwight ?" said someone else. That small one- that small voice again.
Alan He thought, struggling through the darkness. "Dwight!" the voice said louder, shaking his black world of unconsciousness. The hunter let out a groan, forcing his eyes open to see the too-bright light. "A-Alan ?"
"Oh, thank god, Dwight!" A small boy threw his arms around Dwight's neck, hugging him tightly. The black haired boy winced, his head heavy and hair matted with blood. No, this wasn't Alan. Dwight wasn't dead. Reed. Reed was the one hugging him. The hunter sluggishly lifted his hand, patting the strawberry-blonde's head reassuringly. "'m ok " His voice was slow, weak. His head was numb and his eyes were heavy. Surely a small nap would be ok Reed pulled away and looked at him worriedly. "No, Dwight. Stay awake. Stay with me!" He shook Dwight again. Suddenly, the hunter's eyes rolled back and he went limp. Reed was pushed back gently by a paramedic, despite his frantic protests. They took him away on a gurney, setting the boy gently in the red and white truck with the others. Everyone healthy enough to walk crowded around the unconscious and injured, fretting. Reed pushed through the crowd, coming near the front where a few police were keeping the gawking students back. A hand suddenly grasping Reed's and he looked up to see Shane, staring straight ahead at the ambulance. "Shane ?"
The tall boy's throat tightened his eyes slightly watery. "My brother's on that truck "
Reed swallowed and turned toward to face the vehicle also, wrapping his arms around Shane. "So is mine "
