Ethan ran towards Dion who was strangling Jill. He grabbed Dion from behind but, felt his breath get caught when Dion pushed him backwards. Ethan ducked and stumbled backwards as Dion tried to swing at him. Ethan ran towards him and before he knew it he felt a sharp pain in his stomach. The last thing Ethan saw as he fell to the ground was Cal grabbing Dion behind.
"Can I get some over here!" Cal called out still holding Dion.
Within minutes Max, Lofty and Iain ran over spotting Cal holding onto Dion and Ethan lying on the floor. Iain took over from Cal while he ran over to Ethan's side.
"Ethan! Stay awake for me. That's it just keep those eyes open for me." Cal told him.
With the help from Max and Lofty, the three of them managed to roll Ethan into the ED. Iain on the other hand had handed Dion over to security and helped Jill back into the hospital as well. Ethan was rolled into RESUS where they were met with Zoe and Charlie.
"Cal?" Charlie said. "What happened?"
"Uh, Ethan got stabbed by a patient." Cal explained to them.
Cal stepped aside while he watched his friends hook Ethan up onto a monitor and a litre of saline. Seconds later, the heart monitor was reeling off a steady beat.
"Zoe, how is he doing?" Cal asked.
"He's stable, but is going to need minor surgery." Zoe replied.
"Can I have a moment alone with him?"
Zoe nodded and then indicated with her head for the others to give them some time alone. Charlie, Lofty and Max followed Zoe's lead leaving the two of them in RESUS. Cal slowly walked over to where Ethan lay with an oxygen mask over his face.
"Thanks for helping me." Ethan said as he took off the mask.
"That's what brothers are for." Cal shrugged.
There was a moment of silence between them until Cal broke it.
"Uh, about earlier..."
"Cal, I don't want to hear it." Ethan cut him off.
"Please, Ethan. We need to talk." Cal begged.
"Talk?" Ethan scoffed. "What is there to talk about? You hurt me, Cal."
"I know I hurt you. That's why we need to talk this through, so I can fix things."
"I don't think you realise just how much you hurt me. This is not something that a drink or a night out is going to fix." Ethan told him.
"So tell me what can I do? I don't want to lose you, Eth." Cal said to him.
"You already have."
"What do you mean by that?"
"You're on your own from now on, Cal." Ethan replied. "I'm not your brother anymore."
"Ethan..." Cal pleaded.
Ethan turned away from him.
"I think you should leave now."
Getting the signal Ethan no longer wanted to talk to him, Cal left him to rest.
