'Hey, what's bothering you?'
Annabeth jumped at her moms' voice. She didn't hear her mom coming into her because she was too immersed in her thoughts. Turning to her mom, the most successful architect Annabeth has ever met, she gave her a strained smile.
'Nothing much, mom. You don't have to worry about it.'
'Are you sure?'
'Yes, I'm sure,' she lied.
'Then, why didn't you notice me coming into your room? Normally, you would just snap out of your thoughts. Something's bothering you.'
Annabeth scolded herself for lying, her mom was too observant.
'Honey, you know you can tell me anything,' Athena, her mom, soothed her.
'Mom, I want to be a singer,' she blurted out. Instantly, her mom stiffened. Annabeth knew that her mom didn't approve of her singing and making music. She bit her lip, waiting for her mom to react. Slowly, Athenas' face softened and asked, 'Why?'
'Because making music makes me happy, mom. I want to do something that makes other people and me happy.'
Athenas' eyes started tearing, 'You remind me so much of someone, Beth.' Beth, she thought, her mom never calls her that unless...
'You remind me of your dad,' she was talking about dad, she rarely talks about dad. 'What about dad, mom?' Annabeth pressed on.
'Your dad was a wonderful man and he loved making music, just like you,' she touched the tip of Annabeths' nose and continued talking. 'He was so passionate about his music, he became a singer. He would always make music in this particular room before you were born. He made music for you.'
She looked around in her blue colored bedroom, a room she used to hate, most of her stuff were blue, even her bed. After listening to her, the hatred inside her evaporated as her mom continued to speak.
'Your dad never made it back, Beth. He was on a plane, coming back from his world tour, right before the day you were born. A-A-And the plane crashed, they never found his body, Beth. Not even his belongings, not one trace about him. The only that's left from him was his guitar.' Athena pointed to where her guitar stood; Annabeths' eyes followed her mom's finger and gazed back to her mom, who was crying, silent tears dropping out of her gray eyes
'Mom, I'm sorry,' Annabeth said, as she hugged her mom.
'It's okay, Beth. All I'm saying is that I will support you throughout your whole journey of becoming a musician.'
Annabeth was shocked, all this time she thought that her mom wouldn't approve of her making music and here is her mom declaring that she will support her.
'You will?'
'Yes, of course I will,' Athena said with a sad smile on her face.
'But I thought you didn't approve of it. Every time I sing or play the guitar, you would make a face.'
'That's because you remind me of your dad. You're so much like your dad, it scares me.' Athena said after laughing a little.
After that, they just sat there, enjoying each other's presence, until said this to her mom.
'Thanks, mom. I love you.'
'I love you, too.'
Athena kissed her daughters forehead.
