4 years after the war….. Fire Nation Palace
"Zuko, I can't do this," said the young bending master, pulling away from her boyfriend's passionate kiss.
"Do what? Kiss me? Katara, we've done this plenty of times."
"Yes, I know we have and I did enjoy them but… I can't do…this." She gestured to him and herself.
He starred at her silently for a few moments. "…Its Aang, isn't it…" afraid to speak she turned her head away and nodded. Every now and then she would wonder what life would be like if her and Aang were together.
"Don't worry, I'm not mad. Actually, I'm relieved." He waited for his soon to be ex-girlfriend to say something, when she didn't he continued to speak. "I really miss Mai and I want to be with her again," he took hold of her chin to lift her head up so his eyes met hers. Blue worried orbs staring into amber hopeful orbs. "Katara," he smiled, "I love you… and I always will, but I don't want to stay with you if it makes us both unhappy. No matter what happens in the future, not matter who gets married to whom…just know…that I will always love you." He kissed her tan forehead.
"I know, Zuko, I love you too. Thank you, for everything." She wrapped her thin arms around his neck in a tight embrace and he wrapped his muscular arms around her small waist. They pulled away after a few moments.
As Katara walked out of his room, he put a hand on her shoulder to stop her. She turned around and walked closer to him. "Yeah, Zuko?" "Before you go…can I just have…one more kiss." She smiled at him. "Of course you can, Zuko."

"Aang!" she ran up and hugged the young Avatar, "I love you Aang. And I mean it this time. I'm sorry I called it off between us. I never want to be with anyone but you."

"Mai!" he ran up to the skilled shrukin thrower. "I love you Mai. I know I left you before but it was a mistake. A stupid mistake. I never want to be with anyone but you."

A few years later Aang married Katara. Zuko was happy for them.
About a year after, Zuko married Mai. Katara was happy for them.
They will always hold a special place in each other's hearts.
