Draco looked into the Mirror of Erised and smiled. He saw himself, standing just as he was, except that his image seemed to be holding a delicious looking apple. He couldn't stop staring t the succulent flesh of the red fruit, even though he knew that the image was not real, for it was an image that made him extremely pleased.

It was only after he had left, that the Mirror sighed quietly to itself. The Room of Requirement, where the Mirror was currently residing, however, must have heard the sound, because it called out in its echoing voice.

"What is it, Mirror?" it asked. The Mirror sighed again.

"I wish," it began, "that the Slytherin boy would look at me the way he looks at the image I show him."

The Room was evidently confused. "But...if he looks at the image, won't he be looking at you?"

The Mirror's voice betrayed its jealousy when it replied. "Not quite. It's that blasted apple! That is who he loves, not me."

The Room was quiet for a few moments, before replying. "Do you want to know a secret?"

"Hmm?" the Mirror asked.

"I hate that apple as much as you do. You see, Draco, my Draco, used to love me first. But then, that salacious little red twit came along and I was suddenly the one left behind. It threw me right out of his life!"

The Mirror reflected on its friend's words.

"You know," it said after a pause, "maybe we don't need him after all. He's only a human, at the end of the day."

"What do you mean?" asked the Room.

"I mean there is a way for both of us to end our suffering. That is to say, we don't need him, because we have each other."

"Each other, eh?" The Room was considering it.

The Mirror hoped this would work out. To be honest, it had always had a thing for the Room, with its pretty walls and magical furniture. But it had never been sure how the Room felt about that.

As the moments passed, the Mirror began to lose hope. Had it messed it up? Had it lost its only friend? Had it made a fool of itself? Its train of thought was broken by the Room's voice.

"Mirror?" it asked.

"Yes?" the Mirror of Erised replied.

"Your glass looks nice today."

It was a pity Mirrors couldn't smile.
