Check "Yes" or "No" (Prologue)

The recess bell rang at Sunset Elementary, signaling all the young children to return to their designated classrooms. Squealing and laughing continued throughout the enclosed playground as young boys and girls raced each other to their classes. Over by the swing set, a couple of children, a boy and a girl, were walking together very slowly, stretching the amount of time the two best friends could spend together before being forced to study rather than socialize. The boy, a short blonde-spiked rascal with ocean blue eyes who usually wore a crooked smile, looked to the girl with concern etched in his features. The girl, whose long black hair was pulled back into a braid and misty green eyes were focused on the ground in front of her, had been silent the entire fifteen minutes of recess. This worried the blonde, for the young girl was always the one to crack jokes and do anything to break the silence she always disliked.

"Roxas," The boy turned at his name, pulling up a smile as he always did. "Yeah Rachel?" She looked at Roxas, the one thing she had kept doing all recess, and he threw her the same big smile. She blushed and looked away all the other times, but this time she smiled back. She was still blushing, but at least she was looking at him and finally smiling.

"Roxas, I want to give you this, and I want you to answer it… Just don't laugh at me if you say no…" Now Rachel was really red, and Roxas was thoroughly confused. By now they were nearly to the door—Rachel pulled a neatly folded note out of her dress pocket and handed it to Roxas. Before Roxas could ask what it was or why Rachel was acting so strange, she ran into the classroom and sat in her seat across the room from Roxas's. They had been separated by their teacher, Ms. Anderson, for talking during reading time, so Roxas couldn't go over when class was starting or else he'd get into trouble. So he went to his own seat and unfolded the note under his desk. It read:

"We're only in second grade, and we're not subpost to like boys or girls. You know, LIKE like… But I think I love you. Do you love me too? Check yes or no."

Roxas got wide-eyed. His heart started pounding, and he jumped when Ms. Anderson called on him to do the math problem. He looked over at Rachel, who looked back with nervousness and anticipation, still blushing. Roxas thought she looked really cute when she blushed, but he was afraid to tell her that before. He thought she'd say he was gross and never talk to him again. Now he knew. With a confidence that he didn't even know he had, Roxas got out of his seat, strutted to the board, and wrote out the answers—2x2= 4, and yes.

I'm back! Please give me feedback on what you think of this so far? I'll make you brownies or something. ~CoD
