Chapter 1

Aurelia O'Rory smiled as she kissed her mother goodbye and stepped up onto the train. Spotting her friend and room mate Lily Evans further up the train, she waved one last time to her mother and turned, running up to Lily. The girl squealed as Aurelia jumped onto her back from behind. "Aur!" she cried "Get off me!"

"That's right Aurelia." Came a deep voice from behind her. "Jumping on Evans is my job." Both Lily and Aurelia spun around to see James Potter standing behind them grinning in the arrogant way that only he and his best friend Sirius Black knew how to do. "Shove it Potter!" Lily snapped, grabbing Aurelia's wrist and pulling her along, past James to look for a compartment. "Jump you later Evans!" James called after her. Lily scowled as she opened the door to an empty compartment and walked inside. "Ew!" she hissed "Who on earth does he think he is?"

"James Potter?" Aurelia finished for her. Lily nodded her head and replied in a hollow voice. "Why do people even like him, He's a jerk."

"They think he's funny." Aurelia replied, keeping to herself the fact that she had personally found what Sirius and James had done to Severus Snape the year before quite hilarious. "Funny?" demanded Lily "He's not funny! He's an asshole!" Aurelia had to agree, though while she did not share Lily's vehement hate of Sirius and James, she didn't much like them either. They were mean and conceited and sometimes were known to walk around the school hexing people for getting in their way or annoying them, just because they can.

"Do you guys mind?" came a voice from the doorway, Aurelia and Lily looked up to see Remus Lupin standing, holding the door open. "Sirius and James insist on fighting with the Slytherins and I don't want to witness that, I got Prefect this year."

"So did I." Lily said brightly, Remus nodded

"I thought you would." He replied.

"And I knew you would get it." Lily said to him "It certainly wouldn't be Potter or Black, and I doubt Pettigrew would get it." Remus frowned at this and said "Lily, I know you don't like them, and I'm not asking you to, But they are my friends, the best friends I could ever ask for, Please don't say those types of things about them while I'm here." Lily looked guilty and nodded her head slowly, looking to the ground "Sorry." She muttered as the compartment door slid open and there stood a tall boy with dark hair and sapphire blue eyes. Aurelia squealed and threw herself at him hugging him. "Hey cuz." He said grinning as he hugged her back.

"Colin!" Aurelia cried, "It's so good to see you!"

Colin laughed and set Aurelia back on her feet then looked around at the other two people in the room. "Oh." Aurelia said slowly beginning the introductions "Colin, this is my best friend Lily Evans and this is Remus Lupin." Indicating each in turn, she then turned and indicated Colin "And guys, this is my cousin Colin O'Rory."

"Are you new?" Remus asked. "I don't recognize you." Colin nodded and sat down. "I used to go to a small school in Spain, but the family moved back to Ireland to be with the rest of the family, we missed home. So I transferred to Hogwarts to do my N.E.W.T.S."

"What house are you in?" Lily asked. "Do you know?" Colin shook his head, and then flicked his long dark hair out of his eyes. "Dumbledore sent an owl saying I was to be sorted after the first years at the feast tonight."

"Public humiliation." Remus said, grimacing. Colin beamed, showing off perfectly straight, white teeth. Aurelia grinned; every girl at Hogwarts would soon be falling in love with her cousin. Girls always did. "Oh, Colin won't be embarrassed, will you cuz? He loves being the center of attention."

"What better way of starting Hogwarts than to have everybody know who you are?" Colin replied, smiling again. Aurelia glanced at Lily to see her friend was staring at Colin, her jaw dropped slightly. Aurelia grinned and elbowed Lily who glanced at her and mouthed "Hottdamn!" causing Aurelia to bite her lip in order to keep herself from giggling. "You should meet my friends Sirius and James," Remus was telling Colin "I think you'd get on well." Lily now bit her lip in order to keep from saying anything to that remark and making Remus uncomfortable again.

Aurelia, Lily, Remus and Colin sat in the compartment talking about anything they could think of for about an hour, until the door slid open and in walked two girls. Aurelia's and Lily's roommates and best friends. The taller one, Tara, had long blond hair and sky blue eyes. Though, unlike most other blonds in their grade, Tara was not ditzy. She was one of the top students in the school. The other girl, River, was shorter and at the present, had dark purple hair and olive green eyes; River was a metamorphmagus, and liked to frequently change her looks, especially her hair color. Both girls grinned at Aurelia and Lily when they entered the compartment, then froze when their gaze found Colin. Aurelia quickly jumped to hr feet and made the introductions, before Tara and River both took seats. "Where have you guys been?" Lily asked their friends. Tara frowned and River sighed, tucking a strand of her purple hair behind her ears. "The corridor was kinda blocked…" she said, pausing "Potter and Black were fighting with some Slytherins, and we couldn't get passed."

"Are they okay?" Remus asked slowly. River looked at him and smiled "Who? Potter and Black or the Slytherins?"

"Sirius and James." Remus replied in a concerned voice. It was clear that River loved taunting Remus, everybody knew it. Colin grinned as he picked up on River's secret that was common knowledge to everybody who had known her for more than ten minutes. Turning to Aurelia, Colin whispered to her "Does River carry a torch for Remus?" Aurelia nodded and grinned back at her cousin whose face had erupted into a brilliant smile. River smiled and replied to Remus' persistent question "Your friends are fine Remmy, though the Slytherins are not too happy." Remus relaxed, though Lily stood up and moved toward the door. "Where are you going?" Aurelia asked. Lily turned around and sighed. "I am a prefect, duty calls." She looked at Remus, who looked trapped. "I don't expect you to give your friends detention Remus, its okay."

"Yeah." River laughed "Lils will do that for you!" Lily glared at her, and River smiled sweetly. "This has nothing to do with the fact that I don't like Potter and Black, River."

"Okay." River replied, simply. Lily raised an eyebrow and turned, walking from the compartment.

"Lils!" Aurelia called running up the corridor after her friend. Lily stopped walking and turned so Aurelia could catch up with her. "What are you doing?" Lily asked, frowning in confusion. Aurelia grinned and brushed her long black hair over her shoulder. "This is your first act as Prefect, before you conquer the world. You think I'd miss this, it'll be something to tell the Grandkids, this will, … and two arrogant Gryffindors just beat the shit out of some Slytherins, if you happen to meet said Slytherins, they aren't going to be very friendly with you, considering one of those arrogant Gryffindors has a very public, rather large, crush on you – you may need back up."

"Oh…" Lily breathed "Uh, thanks."

"No problem." Aurelia replied smiling sweetly. Lily laughed and together, the two girls made their way down the corridor, arm in arm.

A little further up the train they came across a scene that was rather unusual, There were two rather large and unfriendly looking seventh year Slytherin boys dragging the unmoving body of a sixth year Slytherin boy into a compartment. Lily immediately stepped forward, and said loudly "What happened here?" The six Slytherins inside the compartment, not including the unconscious one on the floor, looked up at Lily and scowled. "Oh look." Snarled one sixth year, Aurelia knew his name to be Zane Swittle, "It's that Gryffindor mudblood bitch!" Lily blinked. And Zane smirked.

"Look Zane," one of the other's said "They even made her a prefect!"

Zane glanced at the badge on Lily's shirt and at the same time Both Lily and Aurelia noticed the same shiny badge on Zane's shirt. "You're filth!" Zane said to Lily, "Trash, vermin that should be extinguished as soon as possible!"

Aurelia pushed Lily behind her and stood between her friend and Zane, who had taken a threatening step towards Lily. "Leave her alone." Aurelia said dangerously.

"Or what?" Zane demanded, looking Aurelia up and down "Blood traitor?"

"There a problem here?" came a voice from behind Aurelia. She didn't need to turn to know who it was; she recognized the voice as that of Sirius Black. "More Blood Traitors!" Zane exclaimed in a mock gleeful voice.

"Look down, mate," came James Potter's voice, "You want to end up looking like your friend on the floor there?" Zane seemed to ignore the warning, because he kept going. "Come to rescue your little mudblood girlfriend?"

"Shut your face!" James snarled, a moment later Aurelia saw a wand enter her vision at her side, pointed at Zane. She felt a hand on her shoulder and looked back to see it belonged to Sirius; he was attempting to pull her back behind him, away from the fight. Aurelia shook him off as Zane continued to talk. "You know," Zane said nastily "I think you're in with a chance anyway, even though she doesn't want you, mudblood sluts are all…"

Zane didn't finish his sentence because as soon as Aurelia had realized what he was saying she had leapt forward and punched him in the face as hard as she could. Zane was knocked backwards, he tripped over his friend on the floor and fell to the ground, holding his face and howling something about a broken nose. In an instant the other Slytherins had flown to their feet and leapt into action. Aurelia was staring at Zane on the floor for a few moments until a flash of movement caught her eye, she looked up to see that Sirius had caught the wrist of someone who was about to hit her in the head. "Back off Regulus." Sirius snarled.

"Get off me, Blood traitor!" Regulus cried, yanking his arm free and stumbling back. Aurelia looked from Sirius to Regulus; you could see a family resemblance, in appearance anyway. Regulus was a typical Slytherin, totally into being a pureblood. Whereas Sirius had been put into Gryffindor and was nothing like his brother, blood meant nothing to him.

"What is going on here?" Demanded a voice from the door. Everybody froze, James halfway through punching a seventh year, Sirius and Regulus staring each other down, Aurelia pulling her wand out as a fifth year advanced on her, Lily pressed against the wall trying to get out of the way and the other Slytherins cheering their mates on. Standing in the doorway was the new Head boy, a Ravenclaw. "What is going on here?" he repeated when nobody answered. "O'Rory punched Zane." One sixth year said in a slimy voice. "We were only defending ourselves."

"And what happened to 'him'?" the head boy asked, gesturing at the unconscious Slytherin on the ground. "Black and Potter did that before." The Sixth year said triumphantly. Aurelia, Sirius and James all turned to face the Head boy. "Detention, for a week, for you three." He said.

"They called Lily a mudblood bitch and a slut!" Aurelia protested. The head boy looked sideways at Lily, as if he hadn't noticed her before now.

"Lily," he said in concern, seeing the frightened look on her face. "Are you okay?" Lily nodded and brushed her hair out of her face, straightening herself. The Head boy offered Lily his arm and led her from the compartment as Zane got to his feet. "You'll all pay!" he promised, trying to stem the blood flow from his nose.

Aurelia made her way back to the compartment with her friends in it with Sirius and James trailing behind her. She opened the door to see that Peter Pettigrew had since entered and was sitting with Remus while Tara and River were talking to Colin. "What happened?" Colin demanded, getting to his feet and rushing over to Aurelia. "Aurelia?" Aurelia fought him off.
"I'm okay." She said "I'm not hurt"

"Uh… Who are you?" Sirius asked, coming in behind Aurelia.

"He's Colin, my cousin." Aurelia explained quickly, before turning to River and Tara. "I got a week of detention, for punching Zane, because he called Lily a mudblood bitch and a slut!" she complained, throwing herself onto the seat next to Tara.

"She did more than punch him." Sirius said "She broke the bastard's nose!"

River laughed. While Colin smirked.

"It's all well and good." Aurelia said, "But I still have a week of detention."

"Well," Sirius said, smirking as he sat beside her and draped his arm around her shoulders, "At least we shall have some quality time together." Aurelia gave him a disgusted look and pushed him off her.

"Don't touch me, Black!" she said sharply. Sirius gave a slight laugh,

"You want me." He said matter-of-factly.

"Where's Lily?" Tara asked. Aurelia looked over at her friend, to avoid the look Sirius was giving her.

"She went with the Ravenclaw guy who was made Head boy. What's his name? Paul Something?" She said.

"Phillip Rothwell." James replied, sitting on Peter to make him move.

Lily didn't return for an hour, and by that time she was in her robes and made them all go and get changed. For the rest of the day they did nothing. Lily glared at James and Sirius, and Aurelia could practically hear her friend's thoughts screaming for them to leave. Colin seemed to pick up on Lily's bad mood and took it upon himself to cheer her up. They sat in the corner, Colin telling Jokes and Lily laughing every five minutes. Peter sulked as James had made him sit on the floor to avoid being sat on. Remus read through a text book as did Tara. River and Aurelia pulled out a deck of Aurelia's Tarot cards and were doing a reading. While Sirius stared out the window, shredding a piece of paper, rolling the bits he tore off and throwing them at Remus' head. Remus showed great self control by not reacting once. Once darkness had fallen they looked out the window and spotted the silhouette of Hogwarts in the distance. Everybody scrambled to collect all of their belongings and stuff them into their bags. James, Sirius, Remus and Peter left to find their trunks.

Once the Train stopped at the station, the girls lead Colin over to a carriage and they climbed inside. Soon they were pulling up out the front of the castle, and laughing at the awestruck look on Colin's face. "Welcome to Hogwarts!" Aurelia said, wrapping an arm around her cousin's waist. Colin wrapped his arm around Aurelia's shoulders and did the same to Lily on the other side. "It wouldn't be half as beautiful, without my lovely ladies to lead me into it." He said, flashing his perfect teeth again. River laughed,

"Why, he's a little charmer, isn't he."

"The biggest!" Aurelia replied with a grin. "Now, Shall we?"

"I think so." Colin replied as he girls lead him forward toward the large double doors of Hogwarts.
