(Before) the Cape

Dear Lois Lane,

Practically everyday I read one of your articals on our "Man of Steel" in the Daily Planet and I wanted to tell you about the man he was before he dawned the long crimson cape.

However, before I continue I must inform you that I will not disclose any personal information about specific people, places, and so on in order to keep his secret identity, well, a secret.

He is not just one the world's finest heros, but so much more then his actions describe. He is the most selfless being on this planet; probably the universe and I have been gratful to have him as one of my best friends. Being Superman gives no doubt of his heroic persona, though you might not know just how deeply his heroics span; it as if it was imbedded in his DNA. It would be impossible for him not to save people.

In his hometown he was always rescuing the citizens from the Kryptonite influenced psychopaths that terrorized the town; taking on the responsibility of their very existence upon himself. Making sure to stop them no matter what personal sacrifices he had to make in order to do so. Even when he was offered a reward for his heroics he played it off as nothing and never accepted them.

Even knowing him without his powers he was always determined in helping with the smallest of things like holding doors open and carrying groceries for random people if they needed assistance. Though as a friend he is way more than the average Boy Sout. He is my rock when I can't stand, he is my shoulder to cry on, he is the only person who I trust so completely that I could never lie to him, he makes me laugh until I can't breath, you know, everything that a best friend should be.

So now that you know that I only have one thing left to say; it is not the symbol that makes him a hero, but the humble man who embraced it as his destiny.

Your cousin,

Chloe Sullivan
