Author's Note: Okay so the lovely livvialovesnia asked her followers to break her heart with an OTP. As a follower, I felt obliged to, and now I want to write an angsty one-shot from the quote I sent her (it's at the end). And I wanted a mini-break from my other fic because Blaine is so sad and I need some more Kurt in my life. I don't feel like I'm that great at third person but I'll give it a try.
Kurt felt Blaine's eyes bore holes into the back of his head as he walked away as briskly as he could without breaking out into a full sprint. He shouldn't have come to see the production, okay maybe he should have to support his brother, but for no other reason.
Because seeing Blaine, so broken, made his heart give involuntary squeezes that threatened to choke him. And after, when Blaine wanted to talk? Out of the question. Because how can he pretend like he wasn't falling apart when he could feel Blaine's breath fanning lightly across his face. He shouldn't be able to feel it at the distance they were speaking, but he swore he still could.
Kurt watched the bob of Blaine's Adam apple as he was about to speak, to justify, or at least explain himself. But he wasn't ready to hear it. Whether it was simply making out or the real deal, he couldn't hear it. He didn't want to put a name to this invisible intruder. His nightmares were already bad enough without actually knowing the specifics. He was afraid it would kill him.
He had thought that if he saw Blaine again he could see him as a cheater and nothing else. Kurt hated that Blaine was still very much the same boy he fell in love with two years ago. The boy who made mistakes, the boy couldn't express his feelings unless it was through song, the boy so riddled with self-doubt that at the first sign of Kurt stepping away he needed to find comfort in someone else.
Rachel and Kurt found themselves back in their studio apartment the next morning worse for wear. Going back to Lima was supposed to be a way to confront their past, when it actuality it just made the future seem hazier than before.
Kurt had all this anger at Blaine that needed to get out. He even thought to get a punching bag to vent out his frustration but that was something Blaine would've done, or rather should've done; which brought around a whole new round of tears for Kurt. He settled for Rachel holding up their nicest pillow and taking turns beating it as much as they could, until they were too exhausted to think let alone torture themselves with the past.
Kurt awoke at half-past seven in the evening. He slowly assembled some sort of dinner, but if you were to ask him later he wouldn't be able to tell you what he had. He looked over at his phone, willing it to vibrate to life. Kurt knew that after this last encounter Blaine wouldn't call anymore.
Trust had been the foundation of their relationship; before they were Klaine or even best friends. They instantly trusted this ambiguous idea of a person because of shared experience. That is what made them different from the other couples, they never lied to each other, and they were so brutally honest.
"The worst part of all is that Kurt wanted to hate Blaine for what he did. He wanted to scream and hit him until all the pain went away. But as he stared at his phone he realized that he could never hate the first person who made him feel whole."
