I had this idea for a great OUaT Halloween fic all day during school and I was going to go home and immediately start writing but I ended up being distracted by candy and whiskers (visit emma-and-henry-kill-regina [my scary halloween url] on tumblr and you'll see what I mean) and so this is what I have so far. May be update later tonight, may be updated tomorrow, I dunno.
"Hey mom."
Snow smiled. It wasn't often yet that Emma called her that and she relished every time.
"Yes?"
"Assuming time moves the same in both worlds I think it's Halloween. I wonder if Storybrooke is doing anything."
Aurora hopped up to walk next to Emma. "Halloween? What's that?"
"In this world it's called All Hallows Eve." Snow remarked.
"I used to love that holiday as a child!" Aurora exclaimed. "Though I usually managed to nick myself when carving the turnip."
Emma looked to Aurora quizzically. "Turnips? Not pumpkins?"
Aurora mirrored her bemused expression. "Pumpkins?"
Mulan doubled back from scouting ahead to ward of any silly ideas before they were voiced. "You're not celebrating this year. We can't afford to lose time just to carve vegetables."
Mulan's stern expression softened at the crestfallen look on Aurora's face, but she quickly became wary as she caught a glint of an idea in Emma's eye.
Before anyone could stop her Emma bent down to dip a finger in the mud lining the path and quickly dotted Snow's nose.
Mary Margaret looked at her daughter quizzically as she smeared mud on her cheeks. "I have dirt on my face because"
Emma smiled. "Quick costume. Whiskers. You're a cat!"
Snow rolled her eyes as the sheriff of Storybrooke carefully applied mud to her own face.
Mulan stopped short as Aurora jumped in front of her, muddy stick in hand. She begrudgingly held still as whiskers were drawn on her face, but her patronizing gaze made known her distain to the smiling woman before her.
"Come on, it's a holiday!" Aurora implored. She held the stick out to the warrior, muddy end facing herself. "Now do me!"
Mulan silently raised an eyebrow, waiting for the double meaning to make itself apparent to Aurora. She couldn't hold back a smirk as the princess grew pink.
The tip of her tongue poked out between her lips as she gently and precisely applied whiskers and a little heart on the tip of her nose. Aurora bit her lower lip and smiled when Mulan pulled back slightly to survey her handiwork.
Mulan turned abruptly to address Emma and Snow as well as Aurora. "I suppose you may use turnips as lanterns to light the way when it becomes dark. But only if you can walk and carve."
