"Jeff! Come on! We're going to be late!"
The brunette called up the stairs of the small house he shared with his boyfriend, tapping his watch impatiently.
"Sorry! Sorry!"
The blonde half-ran, half-fell down the stairs as he scrambled to get his shoes on.
"Put them on in the car love, we need to go! Our reservations at 8!"
Nick smiled, chuckling gently as Jeff ran out the door barefoot, practically diving into the passenger seat.
"Lets go! I'm hungry!"
"You're always hungry."
"Yeah, so?"
Nick's smile broke into a grin as he hopped into the drivers seat, starting up the car and sliding out of the drive way.
Jeff kept up his excited babbling throughout the journey, talking about his day, asking Nick about his, then telling him some story about a goldfish, or something.
Nick was too nervous to listen properly.
His stomach felt as though it had been tied in a knot as the waiter sat them at their table in the middle, as Nick had requested.
A starter, some fancy, French dish that Nick didn't know the name of.
A main, steak with another nameless foreign side dish.
"Excuse me, can we have some champagne over here?"
Jeff raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Champagne? Some special occasion I've forgotten about?"
The brown haired boy shook his head slightly, smiling innocently.
"No, no. Just feel like treating you tonight."
This seemed to satisfy the blonde, and he resumed eating his meal happily.
That was, until a glass of champagne was placed in front of him.
"NICK! OH MY GOD!"
Nick slid off his chair, crouching down in front off Jeff, one knee bent in front of him.
"Jeff Sterling, would you do me the amazing honour of marrying me?"
His face was…priceless.
Pure shock, confusion, happiness, muddled into one, perfect face.
"Wha-uh…y-yeah. Yeah, sure."
Nick had no time to react before Jeff launched himself at him, slamming their lips together happily.
4 was their number.
Engaged for 4 years.
Married for 4 years, then adopted the first kid of 4.
After 40 years of marriage, their car crashed into 4 others.
Jeff and Nick Sterling were killed on the 4th of April.
Their 40th anniversary.
They died at the scene, wrapped in each others arms.
They loved each other to the very end.
Last words?
"Love you Jeffy"
"Love you more Nicky"
"Not possible."
Then, only blackness.
